ACTIVITY NO. 3.3. - Go and Accelerate!

Objectives:

1. Tell whether an object is accelerating or not.

2. Determine the condition for an object to be considered accelerating.

Material needed:
 Motion diagram

Procedure

1. Refer to the motion diagram given to your group. The diagram shows the positions of a moving car
along the given path at constant time intervals.

Group 1 & 5 - Figure A

Group 3 & 7 - Figure C
Group 2 & 6 - Figure B
Group 4 & 8 – Figure D

2. For this activity, assume that the time interval between two successive (dots) positions of the car is 1
second.

3. Analyze the motion of the car as shown in the motion diagram and answer the following guide
questions.

Guide Questions:

1. How do you describe the path followed by the car?

2. How do you compare the distance between two successive positions of the car?

3. What happens to the distance between two successive positions of the car as the total time of travel
increases? What does this tell you about the speed of the car?

4. Does the velocity of the car change? Why/Why not?

5. Is the car accelerating? Why/why not?
