Industry Internship 2022

The Textile Design course at NIFT is designed to produce dynamic design professionals who
embrace the newer challenges, opportunities and technologies to produce creative and
responsible solutions in the field of Textile Design. The four-year programme prepares students
for domestic and international Home Fashion and Apparel Industry for a wide range of careers in
textile mills and export houses, with fashion designers, design studios, buying houses, and
handloom cooperatives as design or fabric managers. The restructured curriculum prepares
textile specialists with product specific knowledge and skills, augmented with interdisciplinary
skills and co-curricular growth and development.

During the summer break, between third and fourth year of the course, students are given
exposure to the working of the fashion and textile Industry through Industry Internship. The
duration of the Internship is 8 weeks. By this time, students are trained in weaving, printing,
surface ornamentation, digital design and are exposed to craft cluster areas around the country.
The students have also acquired interdisciplinary skills based on the minor opted by them.

Industry Internship 2022

The Industry Internship begins from 30.05.2022 to 22.07.2022 (8 weeks). The internship is
proposed with two main objectives:

• To develop understanding of the structural and functional constituents of fashion / textile

industry.
• To learn to adapt to real industry situations through practical projects assigned by the
industry.

Brief for the Industry

• The objective of the internship is that the student gains in-depth knowledge of the working
of the industry in terms of organization structure, infrastructure, product range, materials
and manufacturing processes, costing, design management, quality control, marketing and
distribution and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). Besides this, the student may also be
assigned a small-scale project keeping in view the internship time period. The project could
be in the area of design intervention, product development, market research, forecast
research or R&D based.
• Industry Internship is a part of the educational programme of the student at NIFT, wherein
after the internship duration of 8 weeks, the student has to submit a document carrying his /
her learning at the industry. The same would be evaluated by a jury panel and grades would
be awarded.
• During this internship period it is expected that partner industry should provide necessary
support and guidance to the internee. The industry would intimate the name of the industry
mentor from their organization who would be responsible for supervision of the student
during the internship, and would also submit the feedback form to the Course Coordinator.
One faculty mentor would also be assigned from the department.
• The Industry would provide a Completion Certificate to the Course Coordinator indicating
that the attached student has successfully completed 8 weeks of Industry Internship.
• A minimum stipend of Rs.5000/- per month to meet the travel expenses and suitable
accommodation (if outstation) to be provided to the student during the internship period.
