Q1(a) Write the advantages of JFET over BJT. 4.5
Explain the pinch-off phenomenon in a JFET with a suitable diagram.
Q1(b) Draw the typical drain characteristics of an enhancement n-channel MOSFET. 4.5
Write the Shockley’s Equation for an n-channel JFET.
Explain said drain characteristics in brief.
Q1(c) Determine the following for the fixed-bias JFET circuit shown in Fig. 1. 4.5
(a) VGSQ , (b) IDQ , (c) VDS , (d) VD , (e) VG , (f) VS.

Q2(a) A dc analysis of the source follower network of Fig. 2 results in VGSQ = -2.86 V and 4.5
IDQ = 4.56 mA. Determine (i) Zi , (ii) Zo , (iii) Av.

Q2(b) Explain with a diagram the working principle of a current mirror circuit. 4.5
Find the mirrored current I1 in the circuit of Fig. 3.

Q2(c) Determine the maximum frequency that may be used in the circuit of Fig. 4, if Op- 4.5
amp slew rate is SR = 0.5 V/µs. Comment whether the output shall be distorted or
not for the given signal frequency.

Derive the expression of output voltage for the instrumentation amplifier.
Q4(b) Explain briefly class A, B and D power amplifiers. Mention the efficiency for each 4.5
type of power amplifier.
Q4(c) Calculate the input power, output power, and efficiency of the series-fed class A 4.5
amplifier circuit in Fig. 6 for an input voltage that results in a base current of 10 mA
peak.

Q5(a) Design a phase-shift oscillator, so that the oscillating frequency (fo) is 400 Hz. 4.5
