2. Tuesday and Wednesday Class: Read the Introduction on page 59 and the rest of the
other pages 60, 61 and 62.

3. Write down five aspects, issues, or main ideas that you consider as important to highlight;
use your own words or paraphrasing.

1)This chapter analyzes the process of globalization by focusing on the past thirty years.
This period of time includes the tight relationship between globalization and
interconnectedness, embracing from the economic to the cultural obvious effects on
today’s world.

2) Inside these obvious effects, the economic side of globalization comprises the Global
trade, finance, and economic production which have been growing and emerging as a
more interconnected side effect, by tying together the fate of countries, communities, and
households throughout the world. This gives rise to a stronger and well-fortified global
market economy, which benefits or affects many countries, even the stronger ones like
the US influence on other countries' economic incomes.

2) Another particular effect is the fast connection between countries that have
demonstrated a coordinated organization to defeat social and climate change issues by
creating international non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as those who are
dealing with terrorist networks or drug cartels.
Organizations that prevent us from climate change were also designed due to nowadays
world’s environmental demands, an example that obeys the characteristics mentioned
before is the well-known organization called Greenpeace. All these organizations have

made this type of effective connection to organize and mobilize like-minded people
around the world instantly.

3) Globalization has also changed the global communications infrastructure in order to

spread new ideas, cultures, and information, thanks to the creation of different cultural
groups whose diverse tendencies are being exposed, we can have an access to a huge
wealth of knowledge coming from different parts of the world, causing interest in foreign
people to travel to meet other cultures, increasing the number of immigrants and tourists.

4) Despite the above-mentioned effects, there are two different perspectives on

globalization. Within this, there are two groups, in the first place, the hyperglobalist, this
group believes globalization will lead to the demise of the sovereign state, in other words,
the state has a global power and ability to control itself, including its economies and
societies. In the second place, the sceptics, this group tends to reject the idea of
globalization, because they don’t consider all the effects already mentioned as evident or
obvious effects of globalization.

5) The main idea written in number 4 was selected to link with this next idea. In spite of
other perspectives on globalization, the chapter highlights that the book makes a
distinction between the following new concept of globalization and its impact on World
Politics by explaining this term which will be discussed with a transformationalist
perspective, that is to say, it acknowledges the emergence of a global politics where a
significant distinction between domestic and international affairs doesn't exist, in fact, this
becomes into a homogenous process.

4. Once done, keep this activity because we will continue working on this during the
semester.
