11.

0 GRADING SYSTEM
The grading system for all University academic programmes will be as follows:

B+ 3.30 75 – 79 %
B 3.00 70 – 74 %
B- 2.70 64 – 69 %
C+ 2.30 60 – 64 %
C 2.00 55 – 59 %
C- 1.70 50 – 54 %
D 1.00 45 – 49 %
F 0.00 00 – 44 %

Note: (i) Fraction marks obtain in a course are to be rounded upto the next whole figure
such 64.1 to 64 or 79.9 to 80.
(ii) If a candidate misses grade by 0.01 CGPA on the completion of the whole
programme, he / she shall be awarded grace marks of 0.01 and placed in the
higher grade.
12.0 RULES FOR PROMOTION TO NEXT SEMESTERS
(A) B.A/B.S. (4 Years), Pharm D (5 Years) and M.A./M.Sc. (2 Years), L.L.B.
(3 Years) Programmes:
12.1(A) (i) At the end of the first semester a student must obtain a minimum Grade
Point Average (CGPA) of 1.70 and must have passed all the courses to be
promoted to the 2nd semester.
(ii) A student who fails in one or two courses but achieves a GPA of 1.00
will be promoted to the next semester.
(iii) A student who fails to achieve GPA of 1.00 but failing in maximum
of two courses will cease to be the student of the University.
12.2(A) Student must maintain a minimum CGPA of 1.70 at the end of the 2 nd and
higher semesters.
12.3 (A) If the CGPA of the student is below 2.00 but he / she has passed all the
courses, he / she may be allowed t repeat the two courses in which he / she has
acquired Grade D to improve the final CGPA. However, the student must
repeat these courses within the stipulated period of the concerned programme.
12.4 (A) The maximum duration of and Honor’s degree is 6 years and of Pharm-D 7
years respectively. In case of M.A / M.Sc. degree the maximum duration will
be 3 years and for LLB degree 4years respectively.
12.5(A) Those who fail in an course will enroll the same whenever it will be offered
by the department / University I the coming semester / summer session.
12.6(A) In Summer session maximum work load of 9-credit hours (3-courses) can be
opted.
(B) Ms / M.Phil And Ph.D (2 Years Programmes)
12.1 (B) At the end of the 1st semester a student must obtain a minimum Grade Point
Average GPA of 2.00 to be promoted to 2nd semester.

12.2 (B) In case a student is able to obtain GPA of 1.70 or more but less than 2.00 he /
she wll be promoted to the 2nd semester on probation. The candidate who
fails to secure 1.70 GPA in the 1st semester shall stand automatically dropped
from the rolls.
12.3 (B) At the end of the 2nd semester, a student must obtain a minimum cumulative
grade point average (CGPA) of 2.00 in order to be promoted to the 3rd
semester. It he / she does not achieve 2.00 CGPA, he / she will be removed
from the University Rolls. In the 3rd and 4th semester a student will carry out
research out under the supervision of his / her supervisor and submit research
thesis / dissertation / project by the end of 4th semester.
12.4(B) A student wll be required a minimum CGPA 2.30 for the award of MS
/M.Phil/Ph.D Degree.

12.5 (B) The stipulated period for the MS / M.phil programmes is 3 years whereas for
Ph.D programmes upto 5 years.
13.0 Calculation/Compilation of the Final Results:
13.1 The CGPA will be reported up to two decimals but for determination of merit
position CPGA will be calculated up to four decimal. In case of a tie merit
position will be determined on the basis of the weighted percentage marks
obtained.
13.2 All students obtaining CGPA of 4.0 will be declared on the Honours List.
13.3 Compilation and notification of the results will be made by the Controller of
Examinations.
14.0 Make-Up Examination And Incomplete Grade
Absence from any scheduled examination is permissible only in extreme situations
beyond the control of the student as authorized by the University. Serious illness of
the student or death in the immediate family is regarded as a legitimate reason for
scheduling a make-up examination. Even in an emergency situation, the student or
someone on his/her behalf must inform the Chairperson of the Department in
writing before the examination is held.
Request for scheduling a make-up examination must be made by the student on the
make-up Examination Petition Form which must be submitted to the Chairperson,
along with other required documents, within one week of missing the examination.
The Chairperson will send the cases to Controller of Examinations for notification
after the approval of the Competent Authority.
The make-up examination of the mid semester examination will be taken with the
final examination of the same semester in the same sitting whereas the makeup
examination of the final semester examination may be held during the next Summer
Session or with the next Midterm examination. Such a candidate shall be given
Incomplete Grade (‘I’ Grade).Private arrangements for make-up examination
between a student and the teacher are not allowed.
14.1 Students who may have been debarred from taking examinations due the shortage
of attendance must get themselves enrolled for that course ,whenever offered
14.2 A student may be given re-sit examinations for a failed course once only.
* This category of the students will be taking the exam as their 1st attempt
14.3 Freezing / Deferment of a Semester:
(i) A student may request for freezing of any semester except the first one.

(ii) For the freezing of a semester, the student will have to submit the request to
the authority through the Chairperson within two weeks of the start of the
semester.
(iii) The freezing of semester is allowed one semester. The student will have to
pay dues at the prevalent of rejoining time and shall be required to follow the
curriculum prescribed for new session as applicable.
(iv) The freezing is allowed once in two / three years programs and twice in four /
five year programs
(v) The freezing period (time of absence) will not be included in the stipulated
period for this programme.
