1) What is your BHAG (***one amazingly HUGE, your world changing goal***)?

My one amazingly huge world changing goal is to become the controller for several
car dealership offices in the United States to revolutionize the automotive industry
office management.

2) Why is this your BHAG?

When I first began in the Automotive Industry as a receptionist I knew I wanted to climb
the corporate ladder but not only that, I wanted to bring in changes that would
revolutionize the automotive business. I want to make sure finances, deals, accounting,
and all office matters are ran smoothly to be able to make more money for the dealerships
and help customers have a smoother and more pleasant process when purchasing a
vehicle. The faster and more efficient the office is in finishing and processing these deals,
the more cars the dealership can sell, reaching unimaginable heights of sales and the
faster and easier the process is for customers to purchase or sell a vehicle. This will begin
from one dealership to a huge amount of dealerships in the country.

3) How does your BHAG align with your vision statement from Module 4?

“For the rest of my life I will strive to bring inspiration to those around me, and
encourage growth and positive development in my own and other’s personal and
professional lives.”

My BHAG aligns with my vision statement because I will continue inspiring those
around me and more and more people in the automotive industry including my peers,
coworkers, customers, and more. I encourage unimaginable growth and positive
development of the automotive office businesses, impacting people’s personal and
professional lives.

4) How does your BHAG align with your mission statement from Module 4?

“I aspire and strive to lead others with respect, patience, wisdom, and most importantly
by example, being the best leader I can be. I am dedicated to be of service to others and
be of great support.”

If I continue leading, growing, and climbing up in the automotive industry, I will be able
to be an example to others around me. No matter where I am at no matter what my job is
and no matter what my title is I always want to respect others, lead with patience, and
wisdom gained from those around me and life experiences in my professional and
personal life. If I work in the Automotive business I will always be of service to the
people I lead, the people I am around, and all customers. I always want to be of great
support to those I can help grow.

1
5) List your top five (5) obstacles in order from number 5 being least difficult and
number 1 being most difficult you need to overcome in order to obtain your BHAG
and explain the relevance of each one.

1. Traveling to other states often: I am someone who likes to stay in my home town,
close to my loved ones and family. If I am running businesses all over the country it is
inevitable that I will have to travel a lot, having less time in my town and with my loved
ones.
2. Large Cities: If I will run large business offices I will have to be in large cities which
is something very difficult for me. I am not comfortable in large cities with much traffic.
I become easily overwhelmed in busy/hectic cities like these.
3. Deciding when to have a family: I want to have a family in the future. However,
deciding when the right time to have a family will be difficult for me and an obstacle I
will have to overcome. I need to make decisions of how my family dynamic will be.

4. Gaining the respect of others: Because I am very young now and a Woman, and
obstable I will have to become is gaining others respect as as young wouman in the
automotive industry ran mostly by older men.
5. Sacrificing time for myself: I am someone who loves to take things slow and spend
time doing slow hobbies like watching tv and reading novels. If I want to become a
controller of many automotive offices I will have to sacrifice time like that to focus on
running these offices all over the country, go the extra mile, and become much anal,
strategical and put in many more hours of work than I do now.

2
Section 2: Career Vision
Consider your long-term vision for your career. Respond to the following questions, and make
connections to your personal mission statement, your BHAG(s), the themes you developed in
Module 4, and the textbook/supplemental readings (as applicable).

Answer the following:

1) Analyze the type of career you want to have, in terms of an organizational career or
a protean career, make sure it is clear you understand the concepts as outlined in
the textbook. Why?

I want to have a moderately protean career because I want to be value-driven as I shape

my career according to my own internal values and beliefs. Just like I talk about in my
mission and vision statements I want to lead others with respect, patience, wisdom and by
example. These are very important and personal values of mine. I want to be able to still
priotitize my family because that is my most important theme and my number one
priority. I believe I still want a somewhat organizational career because I am self-
directred and have personally defined career goals. For example, I want to continue
growing in the automotive industry and growth is one of my themes. One of my goals is
to be an influencial leader which is also a part of my themes and by having these goals
clear, I am able to have somewhat of an organizational approach as well. I am strategical,
and career goal oriented, yet still very protean and self-managing.

2) Analyze your career with an explanation as one that moves you up the organization
or one you develop seeking alternative career paths. If you see yourself taking an
alternative career path, which one(s) sound the most likely? Why?

My career is one that moves me up in the organization. I want to become the controller
for the automotive business offices such as billing, trade-in, title, human resources,
accounts payable and accounts receivable departments. I began in the industry as a
receptionist, then moved up to being un the customer experience department and am now
working in the office as a biller. I can see myself only moving up and moving forward in
this industry. If I were to see myself taking an alrenate career path I would do something
with my family in the short term rental industry such as airbnbs. This would help me be
financially independent as well as my family, having multiple sources of income. This is
something that we have talked about a lot and my dad and I would like to have our
carreers and have rental properties on the side however, this also sounds like a good
alternative career path.

3) Discuss and explain if you see yourself working an alternative or flexible work
schedule/arrangement? If so, which ones and why?

3
I see myself working a very flexible work schedule/arrangement. Once I reach my BHAG I
will be able to self-manage accordingly and be able to set my own schedules for when it
would be necessary to travel to each of the locations I control in the country. Otherwise, I
would like to be able to work from home and with my computer. This will help me be in
many places at once managing automotive industries in different states through apps, online
systems, online communication and emails. Having a flexible schedule that adapts to my life
will also help me arrange time and priorities with my family and loved ones.

4) Research and post current, or past, job postings from your local area, across the
country, or from around the world which illustrate how you might reach your
BHAG. Be sure to provide the Job Title, a small description and why it supports
your BHAG when you provide the URL. Websites such as CareerBuilder, Monster,
or Indeed might be a good place to begin. Also, career-specific websites such as
SHRM.org or AICPA.org often have job postings. Provide 2 listings for each of the
following time periods:

d. BHAG Achievement Year

For this section, I was not able to find a job like my BHAG in any internet
site. I decided to reach above and beyond and want to become the controller
for several automotive offices of a major automotive group for example
Champan Automotive. They do not have anything listed at the moment but I
do know they have several controllers that control their dealerships in
different states.

I would achieve this in 2048 (25 years from now)

My job title would be Main Controller and I would control various

automotive offices across the country, overseeing major financial decisions,
and major department decisions such as human resources, payroll, accounts
receivable, accounts payable, billing and finances. All their office managers
would answer to me and I would be making leadership decisions for offices
like these, making sure they are running smoothly and presenting innovative
ideas to ensure the automotive company is progressing, growing, and having
smoother processes for selling and in customer service as well.

7
Section 3: Long-Term Strategy
Develop a strategy for moving toward your ideal future work/life situation and the realization of
your BHAG(s). Consider the timeframe for your BHAG(s). Provide a vivid description of life
“the way it will be” once your BHAG is realized.

1) Critically think about and then list out (not a narrative format) the interim steps or
milestones you have laid out for yourself that will aid you in reaching your BHAG
(you should have at least 10 to earn a rating of excellent and be referenced by time)

1. Become assistant manager for my current office. (October 2023)

2. Become office manager for my office. (December 2023).

3. Get married. (October 2024).

4. Buy my first home in my hometown. (December 2024)

5. Become assistant controller for my dealership. (December 2025).

6. Have children and start a family. (October 2026).

7. Become controller for my dealership. (2038)

8. Become controller for various dealerships in my corporate organization in Arizona.

(2040)

9. Become controller for various dealerships in my corporate organization in the Country.

(2045)

10. Run minimum of 7 Automotive business offices across the US with innovative
growth ideas. (2048)

2) In addition to career-related roles, consider your other life roles in relation to your
career goals. Revisit your responses to the Identities Exercise that you completed in
Module 1 of the course. Based on your long-term strategy what are the 3 most
precious things you are willing to sacrifice, besides time, to achieve your BHAG?
Why?

Going back to my life roles the most precious things that I am willing to sacrifice to
achieve my BHAG are :

Cultural Ethnic Groups:

8
I am willing to sacrifice my focus on my culture to be more focused on my career and
professional life to achieve my BHAG. I focus a lot on my Mexican Culture, follow their
traditions and celebrations. I am willing to sacrifice some of these events and practices to
focus on my professional and personal career where I will still add some of my heritage
but not be as committed to these events outside of my work.

Hobbies:
I am willing to sacrifice some of my hobbies to focus on my career for example, I could
sacrifice yoga but still do other things to focus on my health such as my regular workouts
to still be energetic. Yoga classes sometimes are more time consuming for me and takes
out specific times of my day where I could be using it for other things in my career.
Working out is something that I would have more flexibility with and do on scheduled
specific time that is not valuable to my BHAG.

School:
I am willing to sacrifice school such as futher school education to focus primarily on my
professional career. I am willing to go as far as a bachelor’s degree to be able to spend
my time in my field rather than spending time studying and doing homework. I believe
that using my time to gain experience in the automotive office industry will be very
beneficial to keep growing in that area. Otherwise my mind will be split in two, focusing
on both school and my professional career.

9
Section 4: The one to two year plan
Using a SMART goals-based approach, as well as project planning and management skill best
practices, create a detailed project plan for at least two specific goals. At least one must be
related to your long-term BHAG. The other may be related to some other aspect of your career
development or career-life integration. Both of these goals need to be things that you are
passionate about accomplishing.

Your selected goals and SMART plan (see SMART goal information provided in the module)
should be structured based on a one to two-year timeline. It should include specific milestones,
action items, sub-tasks as well as task-related interdependencies as applicable. With respect to
each goal, critically think about what specifically are the things you will do in the next one to
two years to achieve these goals.

Develop a clear and detailed SMART plan, with facilitating goals and steps/actions required
to accomplish your selected goals. It should be evident, by looking at the format and structure
of your plan, that you have developed some significant skills respect to project management.
Include Gantt charts (T) or other visual project representations as you see fit, and be sure to
address your approach to tracking/measuring your progress (M).

1) What is your #1 Goal? (at least one of the following must be related to your BHAG)

(Insert your #1 Goal above and provide short answers below describing your goal in
terms of the SMART model. Finally, provide a Gantt chart using the tools provided).

a. Specific:

I want to become the office manager for the car business I work for. Being the
supervisor for the billing, titles, trade-in, accounts payable, and accounts
receivable department.

b. Measurable:

I will measure my progess by learning about the different departments that I am

going to lead. Once I learn most about the most important factors about each
department I will consider each department a stepping stone to becoming their
manager.

c. Attainable:

This is possible by me making interpersonal connections with each of the persons

in each department. I will begin by focusing on one department for 2 months at a
time learning the top information of the departments. I will be in constant
communication with the current office manager to guide me and teach me the
most important skills in the area.

d. Relevant:

10
Being an office manager is relevant to me because it will help me climb the
corporate ladder, and gain the proper experience to become the controller of the
dealership one day and eventually keep moving up to running several corporate
offices.

e. Time-Based : I will complete this goal in one year.

f.

2) What is your #2 Goal? (at least one of these must be related to your BHAG)

(Insert your #2 Goal above and provide short answers below describing your goal in
terms of the SMART model. Finally, provide a Gantt chart using the tools provided).

a. S: Buy my first investment home before getting married, which I will make
payments of $900 a month and rent it for $1,300 a month.

b. M: I will contact a real estate company to help me work numbers. I will choose a
base model and indoor details. The house will be built in 4-5 months and I will be
able to measure my progress with the building process. I will also measure my
progress when I find reliable renters, rent my house and make my first payment as
well as receiving my tenant’s payments giving me passive income.

c. A: This is possible by me following specific rental contracts, making interviews

and schedule showing for possible tenants. I will choose renters based on credit
and application. I will also conduct two inspections per contract.

d. R: This is relevant to me because it will be a step forward in me becoming

financially independent in the future. This assures another source of income for
myself.

e. T: I will complete this goal in one year.
