1. Examine and evaluate one lesson plan each from Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, and
Grades 6-12.
2. Given the recommendations in Chapter 7 for developmentally appropriate
practice, do you think that the lessons comply with these recommendations? Why
or why not? Discuss the utility of this website as a resource for classroom
teachers.

1. In the Grades K-2 lesson plan I observed a Baby Shark Cardio Drumming lesson.
I believe this lesson is a developmentally appropriate practice. Further, I believe
this lesson is appropriate because it is age-appropriate and can realistically be
performed in the classroom as it does not require the space of a gymnasium and
much equipment. In the lesson it demonstrates students would use lummi sticks
and a 5-gallon bucket, however an appropriate modification can be students
simply use two pencils and the back of their chairs. Even further outside of this
lesson the pecentral website has a plethora of classroom management skills,
which a teacher can utilize and there is also age-appropriate brain break videos
teachers can utilize for their students when they may need to be reenergized or are
losing focus.

2. In the Grades 3-5 lesson plan I observed a yoga tree pose cool down lesson. I
believe this lesson is a developmentally appropriate practice to utilize in the
classroom because it can realistically be performed in the classroom as it does not
require much space and no equipment. The students can simply perform the yoga
exercises on the classroom rug. I believe this lesson will be most effective after
physical education class or recess as it will help to appropriately bring students
heart rate back down. Further, if this lesson is effective in the classroom this
lesson can also be utilized for students at home to help the calm down or for our
students who may be struggling with ADHD and need a quick sensory break.

3. In the Grades 6-12 lesson plan I observed a who’s on first lesson. I believe this
lesson is a developmentally appropriate practice to utilize in the classroom
because it can realistically be performed in the classroom as it does not require
much space and no equipment. Further, this activity is very inclusive and follows
the concepts of UDL as there are specific modifications for students who are
challenged intellectually and physically. This is also optimal as it is a very student
led lesson the students are performing the skits on their own and acting out the
class by themselves the educator in the room simply just prepped the materials for
the lesson.
