Journal 8: My Impact on Others

I have thought a lot about how I impact others around me. Especially sine last semester,

starting school again. I have sat back and observed, and even done a few minor experiments to

see how much I do impact those around me. So I will touch a little on the experiments and

what I have observed.

I generally am the hard charging type. This semester has been a little more challenging

than last, since I have had more personal issues come up. But I still do my best to get up early,

and get to class or appointments 15 minutes early at least. I don’t use things as an excuse, even

if it is a legit reason. I try to stay in the neutral ground so others see that. I have noticed since

last semester, a lot of the other students who would come to class right on time, have now

started coming to class earlier. I have noticed they mention getting assignments done the night

they are given rather than at the deadline. I have even heard some of them say they get up

before 7 in the morning now. Last semester I was working full-time on a ranch and going to

school full-time as well. They were aware I was up at 0430, and was normally the last person in

bed. It was my responsibility to ensure everyone and everything was locked up and safe for the

evening, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary to get to bed by 2300.

When students come in to class, they see I am normally there already. I have my book

and everything out ready to go. I often have the slides up and seeing what we are going to go

over for the day. I might be taking notes already, and this is observed as well. This was the first

experiment I did last semester. I noticed people coming into the room and just sitting down

and getting right on their phone. No prep taken for class that day, almost like they are waiting

on an instructors direction. I began to see more and more of them preparing prior to class as I

made what I was doing more noticeable. I also did a little experiment for those who sat around

me and would copy my response on things like Kahoot and Nearpod questions. I would

intentionally chose the wrong answer to see if the wrong answer number would go up for the

class. Then I would make sure I got the next three right to see if there would be less. I could

also hear the exasperation when they got it wrong. This lets me know they observe my

intelligence and study habits. It was often mentioned last semester by a few peers how that’s

all they ever seen me do: study and do homework and assignments. What that did was get

them doing the same things. It was reported back to the class that the grade average was

finally going up for the class.

I do my best to be respectful to everyone. With the changes of how to address people

and how to use pronouns, not gonna lie, it’s been tough. Not from lack of respect on the issues

of today, but to much respect. I often find myself holding back from getting a door, as I don’t

want to seem like I am being patronizing. But no matter what I always say please and thank

you, and do what I can for others. My family and friends and peers all see that. I will always do

my best to help others and always give the common respect to my fellow humans.

All of these things I do, those around me see it. From my dedication to my education, to

helping others and being there for my friends and peers, this is all observed. I think the stories

of my life experiences and how I live my life are positive influences on others. Like the

experiments to watch how much I am actually being observed and looked up to for the right

answers, I think general life actions and outside of school are looked at and mimicked as well. I

feel that overall I have a positive impact on those around me and that I am looked up to in my

peer group.
