“An investigation of Metrological Control of selected surface types of a mechanical

part by using different metrology equipments.”
Marks: 10 CLOs: 1, 2 PLO: 2

Features of Washington Accord Complex Engineering Problems:

a) Cannot be resolved without in-depth engineering knowledge.
b) Involve wide-ranging or conflicting technical, engineering, and other issues.
c) Have no obvious solution and require abstract thinking and originality in analysis to formulate
suitable models.
d) Involve infrequently encountered issues.
e) Outside problems encompassed by standards and codes of practice for professional engineering.
f) Involve diverse groups of stakeholders with widely varying needs.
g) High-level problems including many component parts or sub-problems.

Objectives
Problem Statement
An investigation of Metrological Control of selected surface types of a mechanical part by using different
metrology equipments. Accuracy demonstration of On-machine measurement systems compared to CMM
depending on suitable selection of measuring parameters. To suggest the suitable equipment for the specific
machining operation for the given work pieces, also suggest the Design of experiments for the relevant
operation. Students are free to choose any kind of machining operation related to this course work.

I. Asses each work piece for accuracy of dimension as well as for the derivate deviation, e. g. roundness, etc.
2. To measure the profile of a given geometrical work piece.
3. To identify the features commonly machined and measured by the machine tool cycles (machined and
measured at the same milling centre from which on - machine measurement system is developed)
