LIFE OF JESUS
Week 2

The Love of Jesus

Story: The Prodigal Son - Luke 15:11-32 NKJV

Memory Verse: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that
whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
John 3:16 NKJV

4 Types of love in the Bible

1. Storge - Affection in the family between parents and children and brothers and
sisters, like a hug or a pat on the head
2. Phileo - Friendship
3. Eros - Romantic special love that Mommy and Daddy have
4. Agape - God Kind of Love, unconditional. He will never stop loving us even if we
do bad things sometimes. A love that doesn’t require emotion.

● The greatest kind of love anyone can experience and know is the ‘Agape’ love of
God.
● God loves us so immensely that he longs to be in communion with us. He waits
in eager expectation for our conversations like the Prodigal son’s Father.
● John 3:16 says God ‘Agape’ loved the world so he gave his son for us. He gave
His son Jesus so that we can experience that same love the Father shows Jesus
as we learnt in our previous lesson on Jesus’ Baptism.
● When we fail to read the Word or pray, we often are overcome with guilt, shame
or disappointment. But God wants us to come to him to have a relationship with
Him not because it is a rule but because He misses us like the Prodigal Son’s
Father missed him and awaited his return.
● Renew your mind and cultivate this habit of reading the Word and praying
because of love and not just obeying rules.

What did you learn?

1. Why do you think the Father did not stop the Son from going away from him?
2. What do you think this phrase means? “for this my son was dead and is alive
again; he was lost and is found.”
3. If you were the older brother would you be angry as well? And why? If not, how
would you have reacted when your rebellious brother returned? And Why?
