1 Safety
This topic describes the safety information and precautions that you must be familiar with before
operating the ETP48300-A2 AC-DC converter.
NOTE
l The dangers, warnings, cautions, and notes in this document are only supplements to the following
precautions.
l Only those who are certificated or authorized by Huawei can replace or change the device or
components based on related product documents.
DANGER
l Do not touch the connectors on power cables or communication cables.
l Touching the connectors may cause electric shocks, because there are currents in power
cables and communication cables.
DANGER
Ensure that no one is in the area with potential danger before you power on the device.
CAUTION
l During maintenance, wear an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap or ESD gloves to
prevent ESD from hurting you or damaging the device.
l The static electricity on the human body may damage electrostatic sensitive components on
a circuit board. You are advised to wear ESD clothes.
CAUTION
Do not exert excessive force during operation, or insert or remove a component forcibly. Prevent
any damages to the components or plug-ins, such as pin twisting or short circuits.
When operating the ETP48300-A2 AC-DC converter (ETP48300-A2 for short), note the
following precautions:
– When lifting the ETP48300-A2, stand firmly and exert even force to lift it. Keep your
body straight and do not move or turn your body in a sudden. Do not lift an object
heavier than 18 kg by yourself.
– Keep your personal objects such as clothes away from the ETP48300-A2. To prevent
the ESD on your clothes from damaging the ETP48300-A2, wear ESD clothes.
l Precautions for components
– Keep the area where the ETP48300-A2 is located clean, and keep the ETP48300-A2
away from heat generating devices, such as a heat radiator.
– All components of the ETP48300-A2 are electrostatic sensitive components. Do not
touch them with bare hands.
– Ensure that your sleeves are tightened or rolled up above the elbow. For safety purposes,
do not wear jewelry, watches, glasses with metal frames, or clothes with metal buttons.
Context
Ensure that the cabinet and shelf are properly grounded.
Procedure
Step 1 Put on the electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap. See Figure 1-1.
Step 2 Fasten the buckle, and ensure that the ESD wrist strap is in good contact with your skin.
Step 3 Insert the ground terminal of the ESD wrist strap into the jack on the cabinet or shelf.

installed.
Procedure
Step 1 Determine the position for installing the ETP48300-A2 based on the cabinet configuration
scheme.
For details about how to configure a cabinet, see the cabinet configuration and power distribution
scheme.
Step 2 Install a power subrack.

Prerequisites
l You have installed the ETP48300-A2 and connected a ground cable to it.
l You have prepared the following tools:
– Electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap or ESD gloves
– Phillips screwdriver
Context
After installing the ETP48300-A2 and connecting a ground cable to it, you need to connect input
power cables to the ETP48300-A2.
l One end of a power cable is connected to the AC power input port on the ETP48300-A2,
and the other end is connected to the output terminal on an AC power distribution box
(PDB).
l The configuration scheme of the input power cable is as follows:
– If the ETP48300-A2 supplies power to the T8223, T8261, or T8280 shelf, four input
power cables must be connected to the terminals A1, A2, B1, and B2. See Figure 4-5.
– If the ETP48300-A2 supplies power to the T8290 shelf, six input power cables must be
connected to the ETP48300-A2.
For details about the input power cables of the ETP48300-A2, see 4.1.1 Overview of the
Ground Cable and Power Cables of the ETP48300-A2.
CAUTION
l Do not connect one AC power cable to the input ports on many power modules. Otherwise,
the power supply reliability of the ETP48300-A2 is affected.
l To ensure the maximum output power of the ETP48300-A2, each power output of the AC
PDB connected to the ETP48300-A2 must be greater than or equal to 10 A.

L, N, and PE to the corresponding terminals on the PDB, and tighten the screws.
Step 2 Connect the C13 straight connectors of the input power cables to the AC power input ports on
the rear panel of the ETP48300-A2.
Step 3 Fasten the buckles on the power cable connectors to which the input power cables have been
connected.
Step 4 Add protective caps to vacant power connectors.
Step 5 Bind the input power cables neatly and route them along the internal side of the mounting bar
at the rear of the cabinet.
----End
Prerequisites

5.2.1 Power-On
This topic describes how to power on the ETP48300-A2 AC-DC converter (ETP48300-A2 for
short) and the shelf.
Background
After installing hardware for the ETP48300-A2, power on the ETP48300-A2 and the shelf.
Prerequisites
Prerequisites
l You have worn an electrostatic discharge (ESD) wrist strap.
l The shelf and fan tray in the cabinet have been installed properly.
l Blade status is as follows:
– The SMMs are properly installed, the ejector levers are fully closed, and all screws are
tightened.
– The service blades and switch blades are properly installed, and the upper and lower
ejector levers are fully open.
– The rear transitional modules (RTMs) of the service blades and switch blades are
properly installed, and the upper and lower ejector levers are fully closed.
Precautions
l Power on the shelves in a cabinet from the bottom up.
l To avoid misoperations, you must identify the mapping between the switches on the power
distribution box (PDB) and the devices in the cabinet before powering on any devices.
l During power-on, switch on the circuit breakers in area A in the PDB, check that the devices
controlled by these circuit breakers are powered on, and switch on the circuit breakers in
area B.
Data
Data preparation is not required for this operation.
Tools:
l Multimeter
l ESD wrist strap
Procedure
Step 1 Switch on the circuit breaker in area A on the PDB corresponding to the ETP48300-A2 to power
on the shelf.
Step 2 Set the multimeter to DC and check that the input voltage to the shelf is within the voltage
tolerance range.
NOTE
When the rated voltage is –48 V, the voltage tolerance range is –40 V to –57 V. When the rated voltage is
–60 V, the voltage tolerance range is –50 V to –72 V.
Step 3 For the T8280 and T8290 shelves, switch on the circuit breaker corresponding to the power entry
module (PEM) on the shelf to power on the entire shelf.
Check that the POWER indicator and HEALTHY indicator on the PEM are green on and that
the PEM and shelf are powered on.
Step 4 Check that the fans in the shelf run at an even speed, strong air is exhausted from the vents at
the rear of the shelf, and the HEALTHY indicator on the fan tray is steady green.
Step 5 Switch on the circuit breaker in area B on the PDB corresponding to the ETP48300-A2 to power
on the shelf, and repeat Step 2 through Step 3 to check that the shelf is powered on.
Step 6 For the T8223 and T8261 shelves, sequentially lower the ejector levers of the service blades and
switch blades in the shelf.
Step 7 Power on another shelf after confirming that this shelf is powered on.
NOTE
If one step does not succeeds, identify and rectify the fault before going to the next step.

Clearing
When the power monitoring board detects that the output voltage of the power module is normal,
the power monitoring board sends a message to the network management system (NMS) to
recover the alarm status to Normal.
After the alarm status is back to Normal, the system automatically clears the alarm.
