YEAR 7 - SCIENCE

TERM 3: KEY ASSESSMENT 1 & 2

SCIENCE (STEAM) PROJECT

Overview

As discussed, this term's Key Assessments 1 & 2 will be projects for the Science fair on the week
beginning the 14th of May [STEAM week]. Key Assessment 1 is the planning of the project and outlining
your research (reading and investigating sources) where you provide a summary or abstract. Attached is
an exemplar template to use as reference, that you could edit. The Key Assessment 2 will be the actual
presentation of your findings, see attached guide of layout.

You can select any topics from the topic list of content that will be covered in the first half of term 2,
according to the MTPs.

1. Biology:
 Food chains
 Food webs- biotic and abiotic factors
 Adaptations
2. Chemistry:
 Understand the difference between physical and chemical changes.
 Understand what is meant by thermal decomposition.
 Know common acids, bases and alkalis.
 Know how to detect acids and alkalis using indicators and pH scale.
 Know the reaction between acid and alkali as neutralization. \
KEY ASSESSMENT 1: Planning

Brainstorm a topic you are interested from the given topic list above. Is there a question or problem
that interests you? Research via the internet, textbooks, classmates, adults, and using the library.

Determine the RESEARCH QUESTION that you wish to investigate. What is the purpose of your project?
Have the RESEARCH approved by your teacher.

Compose a HYPOTHESIS/PREDICTION that clarifies what you think will happen when you conduct your
experiment. This is your “If I ___, then___ will happen because ___” statement.

Design your experiment (based on your chosen topic) in detail explaining the METHODS you will use.
Generate an EQUIPMENTS/RESOURCES list.

The final hand-in date for Key Assessment 1 is: THURSDAY, 13 APRIL 2023.
