SUMMARY OF HINILAWOD

The goddess of the eastern sky Alunsina was ready to get married, out of all her godly suitors she
chose Datu Paubari, a mortal and the ruler of Halawod. Her suitors were angered by him so they made
the plan to flood Halawod but Alunsina and Paubari escape death with the help of the Suklang Malayon
and took refuge on higher ground. Eventually, the flood subsided and they settled near the mouth of
the Halawod River, several months later Alunsina became pregnant and she gave birth to 3 males due to
a ritual by high priest Bungot-Banwa, transformed into strong men. Labaw Donggon was the eldest got
two wives Angoy Ginbitinan , after he defeated the monster Manalintad with the help of his magic belt,
and Abyang Durunuun, after fighting a giant called Sikay Padalogdog, both of which he left to get
another wife called Malitong Yawa Sinagmaling who was the bride of Saragnayan, he challenged but
was defeat by therefore imprisoning him under Saragnayan’s house. At home, his(Labaw Donggon) wives
gave birth to two children and they went out to search for, their father, they went to Saragnayan and
defeated him and freed their father. Labaw Donggon’ brothers were angered by this and swore to
wreak revenge on all Saragnayan’s kingsmen and followers.

Humadapnon and Buyong Matanayon of Mount Matiula prepared to go to Saragnayan’s domain but
Humadapnon was disatracted by Piganun a sorceress, so Buyong Matanayon took seven slices of ginger
and burned it therefore revolting to Piganun and making her leave, Buyong Matanayon struck
Humadapnon and carried him out. Humadapnon and Buyong Matanayon travelled and exacted revenge
on all of Saragnayan’s people and relatives, one day Humadapnon got a wife of Datu Umbaw
Pinaumbaw’ daugther after removing a boulder with his magic cape, he got another wife the goddess of
greed Burigadang Pada Sinaklang Bulawan after defeating Buyong Makabagting. Meanwhile, right after
Humadapnon left to seek Saragnayan’s followers and relatives his brother Dumalapdap and Dumasig left
for Burutlakan-ka-adlaw where the maiden Lubay-Lubyok Hanginun si Mahuyokhuyokon lived. They
defeated the two-headed monster Balanakon and Uyutang, a bat-like monster with sharp poisonous
claws after a few months their defeat rsulted in the ridge where they were fighting broke into two and
there was an earthquake. Half of the ridge became the island of Buglas (Negros) and the other became
the island of Panay. Dumalapdap married Lubay-Lubyok Hanginun si Mahuyokhuyokan and then took her
home, Datu Paubari was very happy when he was reunited with his three sons and he prepared a feast in
their honor. After the celebration, the three brothers left for different parts of the world. Labaw
Donggon went to the north, Humadapnon went south, Dumalapdap to the west and Datu Paubari
remained in the east.
