Blended Learning Lesson Plan

Lesson Title: Mapping and Landing

Objectives:
Students will be able to indicate different landforms in South Carolina and throughout the
United States, using geographical tools.

Students will be able to identify and differentiate between rural, suburban, and urban areas
within South Carolina and across the country.

State Standards:
1.G.2 Identify and describe the geographic location of South Carolina in relation to the rest of
the United States through the use of various maps and geographic tools.
1.G.3 Identify and differentiate between rural, suburban, and urban areas within South
Carolina
1.G.4 Describe and compare various landforms within South Carolina through the use of
primary and secondary sources

Context: This lesson is being taught to help students understand geographic locations in and
out of South Carolina through the use of various maps and geographic tools. Students’ previous
knowledge in applying map skills will be required to develop an understanding of various
features of Earth and its landscapes. After developing this understanding, students will be able
to connect these resources with various economic activities.

Data: The students will be grouped as: Group 1: 85% and higher. Group 2: 70% to 84%. Group
3: 69% and lower. The hypothetical data will be based on their final score of the last Kahoot
played in class. Data will be collected by me providing a google form to allow students for
questions/comments/concerns on their group activity and how it will help them obtain a better or
higher score on the next Kahoot.

Materials: Google Forms, iPad/laptop/computer, Kahoot, informational worksheet, spin wheel,

pencils/pens/markers, large white poster paper, Youtube, a Vinm Diagram
Detailed paragraphs from here on down.
Procedures:
Introduction (10-15 minutes):
After students enter the classroom, and get settled in, I will begin by taking the class attendance. I will
then provide students with an informational worksheet about landforms and maps before beginning the
groups. I will also explain background information and activity being done for each group before splitting
the class into groups. Students will then split off into groups.

Teacher Directed (10 minutes):

In this group, I will have each student join a Kahoot that is made up of 5 questions that will be
on the next test. For example, “What type of landform is the middle of South Carolina?”  After each
question, I will explain the correct answer and the reasoning behind it.

Collaborative (10 minutes):

In this group, the group will work collectively in a hands-on activity. They will spin a wheel, one-
by-one, in order that the landforms we are studying on it. For example, mountains, plains, ocean, etc.
When the wheel chooses their landform, the student will have to name a characteristic of this landform.
The group will have an individual poster of each landform, and each response from the students will be
written on the poster of the landform they were selected. At the end, they should have posters of each
individual landform and the characteristics said by the student labeled on the posters.

Independent Digital (10 minutes):

In this group, the worksheet provided to the students in the beginning of the class will be
completed. Students will watch this informational video about landforms and their
characteristics and answer the questions on the worksheet. https://youtu.be/wQnCyCAF_BY

They will then make a Vinn Diagram comparing and contrasting 2 different landforms.

Closure (5-8minutes):
I will inform the class that group time is over and to begin cleaning up and heading back to their
seats. I will provide the correct answers for the worksheet on the board. Students will turn in
their worksheets, posters, and Vinn Diagram. I will open discussion for comments, questions,
concerns about the lesson. They will then fill out a google form giving their feedback on the
groups and activities did in the groups.

Rationale:
(“Types of Landforms”): How do you know it is of high-quality? Evaluate this
multimedia against the LORI criteria in the 406: Evaluating Multimedia module to
support your rationale.
This Youtube video is a video that teaches students about the different types of landforms.
It supports the standards through learning landforms using various maps and
geographic tools. It aligns with the lesson plan and state standards needed to be met for
this lesson. This multimedia is inclusive to all students because it has assistive
technologies like closed captions, audible disability, and also provides different ways of
teaching to include auditory, visual, kinesthetic learners. This video passes the eight
dimensions of the LORI criteria. The video is free of errors and is very accessible
navigation. Once the link provided is clicked, you are taken right to the video and it
begins playing. This video provides appropriate goals and objectives to the targeted
audience and includes learner assessments. This video attracts and maintains learner
attention through fun music, graphics, and characters.

(Kahoot): This website Kahoot uses a fun, competitive game to teach and educate. This
website allows instant feedback for the students and teacher. It supports the standards by
being able to describe various landforms in multiple regions. This website is a trusted
website used by many educators. This multimedia is inclusive of many different uses as
any information can be taught using Kahoot, and even has a math mode. Using Kahoot
makes it accessible to different learners such as audible, disability, and kinesthetic. This
website passes the eight dimensions of the LORI criteria. This website is mostly free to
error. The only problem could be a Wi-Fi outage or connection issues. The learning
goals, standards, and objections are met by the type of information being used in the
Kahoot. With Kahoot being interactive, it attracts and maintains learner attention.
Kahoot provides feedback which builds a learner profile. This website demonstrates text,
graphical, and audio media which relates to the context. Navigation is easy, and each
screen leads to another on its own.
