3min Discuss some specific questions with students about their topics
5min Discuss the importance of finding accurate information with students and go over tips from the lesson to help students
narrow down their searches and also help them apply these tips to their own research:
● Enter key words only
● Enter exact phrases in quotation marks
● Place “..” between two numbers to get a range of numbers
● Place “site:” in a search if you want to look at specific websites, including certain news sites
● Look at the extension of the URL to see how well you can trust it (“.com” “.org” “.net” “.gov”)
● See what is paid for and is an ad
● Discuss news tab as well as “tools” and “time” buttons
● Discuss why articles show up in the order they do when people are searching on Google (website cookies and
targeted ads?)
● Google Scholar
2min Have students go back to table groups and use inquiry questions and search on Google using the search engine tips

Due to scheduling and how the lesson went, doing small groups was difficult and much of them were at individual tables.
