    Strength of Material-Group Assignment

    Part –I: Write all your answer in details (more content discussion yield more mark)

    1. Discuss Chapter 4 of your strength of materials syllabus in relation to the various derivation
    theorems and methods used to calculate beam deflection.

    2. What does mean a Principal stresses, principal planes and Mohr’s circle of stress?

    Part-II : Show all your steps clearly.

    1. Draw the shear and bending moment diagram for the beam and loading shown, and determine the
    maximum absolute value (a) of the shear shown in the figure below

    2. For the state of plane stress shown in figure below determine


    (a) The principal stresses,
    (b) The orientation of the principal plane
    (c) Maximum shear stress
    (d) Draw Mohr's circle
