Introduction:
Comilla University is the 26th public university in Bangladesh. Under this university, the
Department of Finance & Banking has started its Journey on 2013-14 session under Bachelor of
Business Administration. Finance degrees are an excellent choice for students who want to
understand how the world economy functions and what are the secrets behind money, investments,
and financial independence. Students learn about financial analysis, financial planning, investment
management, risk management, and financial markets, financial instruments and the various types
of banking institutions, such as commercial banks, investment banks, and central banks, and the
services they provide by studying in the department of finance and banking. Students can also
learn about the regulatory environment of banking, as well as the different financial products and
services offered by banks, such as loans, deposits, and credits. Finance department offer
undergraduate & post-graduate program for students also provide weekend MBA for
professionals.

This report is an attempt to provide an overview analysis of the departmental activities, strength,
and opportunities, challenges, and recommendations for further improvement.

Framework & Description:

The department offers a four-year undergraduate program in finance and banking, one-year
graduate program and 20 months with 54 credits MBA (Weekend) program in the same field.
These programs are designed in such a way that one can match acquired knowledge into
professional arena. We are enriched with 9 highly-qualified faculty members who demonstrate
research-orientation along with 3 nonacademic staff and around 350 students. The faculty
members are actively engaged in research and are involved in various industry-related projects.

The department provides the students with the opportunity to gain practical experience through
internships. The internships provide the students with the opportunity to apply the theoretical
knowledge in the real world.

The Vision of the Department is to develop a galaxy of young, energetic and job oriented
stars for leading the business and economy of Bangladesh and the world both at normal and critical
situation.

In a spirit of excellence, integrity, and dedication the Department of Finance & Banking
is committed to create an environment for our students to seek knowledge, to be impactful business
leaders of tomorrow through scholarly pursuits of our faculty members and nurturing wisdom. It
is especially designed to offer knowledge needed for the 21st century among the learners,
researchers, entrepreneurs and innovators.

Analysis:

The Department of Finance and Banking at Comilla University has made significant progress in
providing quality education and research in the field of finance and banking.
I am the student of MBA (weekend) and this is my last semester of the program. After studying in
this program, I have analyzed the department that the faculty members are so cooperate with the
students, they always try to give the students to complete their study in a comfort zone. Classes &
examinations are done in the routine way. The faculty members are highly qualified and they have
practical knowledge so it can help the students to understand any topic easily. The final thing is
department can arrange a professional learning session by inviting some experts.

However, there are still some areas where improvements can be made. The department needs to
focus on developing partnerships with financial institutions and organizations to provide students
with practical exposure to the financial sector. The department should also consider introducing
more courses on emerging areas of finance, such as fintech and green finance, to keep pace with
global trends.

Findings:
The findings of the analysis of the Department of Finance and Banking of Comilla University are
as follows:

1. The department has a strong faculty and staff who are dedicated to providing the best
possible education to its students.
2. The curriculum of the department is designed to provide the students with the necessary
theoretical knowledge.
3. The department has a strong research focus and has been actively involved in research
activities related to finance and banking.
4. The department provides the students with the opportunity to gain practical experience
through internships.
➢ SWOT Analysis of Finance & Banking Department:

• Strength:

1. The department has successfully earned a considerable reputation for strong


commitment and outstanding devotion to academic excellence at home and
abroad.
2. Our faculty members are highly qualified and research oriented. They have
practical knowledge.
3. Students participate in extra-curricular activities. Students and teachers
celebrate culture festival which creates good relationships with teachers.

• Weakness:

1. Although there are projectors in the department, projectors are not used in
sufficient quantity.
2. A department face limited resources such as research equipment, technology
or library resources, which can hinder the quality and scope or research and
teaching.
3. Teachers and staffs are note aware of their responsibilities because
accountability is low. Students are not responsible to the department due to
lack of strong rules and regulations.
4. Websites are not updated timely.
5. Classrooms and washrooms are not much clean and hygienic.
• Opportunities:

1. Departments can offer workshops, seminars, and other professional


development opportunities for faculty, staff and students.
2. Departments can apply for research grants from governments agencies,
foundations and other organizations to support their research projects.
3. The department has successfully achieved a considerable reputation for
strong commitment and outstanding devotion to academic excellence at
home and abroad.
• Threats:

1. If key faculty members leave the department it could lead to a loss of


expertise and prestige, which could in turn lead to reduced funding and
enrollment.
2. If the university faces financial difficulties, it may need to cut funding to
certain department, which could lead to staff reductions, program closures
or other negative impacts.
3. If the university decides to shift its priorities and focus resources on other
areas, it could lead reduced funding and support for the department.
Recommendations:

1. The department should focus on providing more practical training and


exposure to real-world scenarios.
2. Encourage collaboration between faculty members, staff, students within the
department as well as with other department in the university.
3. The department should updated their websites regularly.
4. Provide resources and support to help student success academically and
professionally.
5. Teacher’s room have to situate at a good place in the department and
washroom’s have to clean well.
Conclusion:

At the conclusion part I want to say this department has a good future & I hope it will lead to the
new era of study. By the faculty members help students can easily knowledgeable about finance
& also banking sector.

By implementing these recommendations, the department can enhance its reputation and increase
its students' employability.

The Department of Finance and Banking of Comilla University has been providing quality
education to its students since its inception. The department has a strong faculty and staff who
are dedicated to providing the best possible education to its students.
