1 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Module pin types


DI (Digital input):
DI pins have 2 logical states, 0 (off) and 1 (on). Module digital inputs are for instance
used to read operator activities. When the operator presses the horn button, module
DI Horn XC1.21 changes state from 0 to 1.

AI (Analog input):
Analog inputs are used to read values from all kinds of sensors, for instance
hydraulic oil temperature sensor is connected to AI pin (XM2.12).

DO (Digital output):
DO pins have 2 logical states, 0 (off) and 1 (on). Module digital outputs are used to
control machine devices. When the operator has pressed the horn button module
DO horn XM1.15 changes state from 0 to 1. This generates sound signal from the
horn device.

PWM (Pulse width modulation):


PWM outputs are used to control proportional valves, for instance boom up valve
XF1.3.

1.2 The naming of module connectors


The following names are used throughout the whole document.

• XC1 – Chair module, connector 1


• XC2 – Chair module, connector 2
• XD1 – Dashboard (or shortly Dash) module, connector 1
• XD2 – Dashboard (or shortly Dash) module, connector 2
• XF1 – Front module, connector 1
• XF2 – Front module, connector 2

1.3 Machine function modes


Manual mode: All machines’ control devices are controlled by the driver in the
machine cabin.

RRC mode: There is no driver in the machine cabin. The machine is controlled
remotely by radio remote controller (RRC).

Automine mode: - There is no driver in the machine cabin. The machine is


controlled remotely by an operator in an automine control room.

2 GENERAL CONDITIONS

2.1 Enable
Enable is active when

• All modules are up and running


• After main switch is turned on it takes a few seconds before enable is active

3 MACHINE FUNCTIONS

3.1 Controlling of the boom


The following conditions must be fulfilled before the boom can be controlled

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)


• Emergency stop is not active (see Ch. 2.2)
• Door is closed
• Motor is running
• Parking brake is released OR rammer option is enabled
• Boom is NOT controlled (i.e. the boom joystick must be initially in the center
position)
• Both direction switches are not active simultaneously
• The direction switch corresponds to the direction of the boom movement
• The analog control voltage from the joystick is between the calibrated
parameter limits

3.2 Controlling of the bucket


The following conditions must be fulfilled before the bucket can be controlled

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)


• Emergency stop is not active (see Ch. 2.2)
• Door is closed
• Motor is running
• Parking brake is released OR rammer option is enabled
• Bucket NOT controlled (i.e. the bucket joystick must be initially in the center
position)

3.3 Boom floating


The following conditions must be fulfilled to activate boom floating

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)


• Emergency stop is not active (see Ch. 2.2)
• Motor is running
• Parking brake is released OR rammer option is active
• Door is closed
• Boom limit switch down is active
• Boom is not controlled
• Boom floating button is pressed, DI XC2.18 is active
• If bucket is controlled, boom floating is inactivated momentarily

3.4 Ride control


The following conditions must be fulfilled before the ride control feature can be
activated

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)

• Motor is running OR remote mode is active
• Parking brake is released
• Ride control option is in use
• Ride control button has been pressed (DI XC2.17)
• Boom floating is inactive
• Machine speed must exceed the ride control starting speed limit AND the
selected gear number must exceed the ride control gear limit
OR
• Ride control test is enabled

The following sequence chart illustrates the ride control sequence. The chart
contains explanations what happens on each step. Under each step there are
conditions that have to be fulfilled in order to proceed to next step.

STEP 0:
Initial conditions and initialization:
- Is ride control option parameter PAR_Option_RideControlInMachine (0 as
default) activated.
- Are the following conditions true: Enable, Emergency stop circuit, engine
running.
- Is ride control activated from the button.

Speed and gear parameters:


- Does machine speed exceed PAR_RideControlStartingSpeedLimit (20 as
default).
- Is current gear >= PAR_RideControlStartingGearLimit (1 as default).
- How many accumulators PAR_HowManyPhase parameter (1 as default).

STEP 1:
Boom and pump control:
- Lifting the boom with full power.

Monitoring the boom lifting:


- Monitoring the boom lower limit switch. Stop lifting after the lower limit
switch deactivates. The limit switch has 100ms delay filtering.

STEP 2:
Boom pressure weighing:
- Take 100 samples from the boom pressure (1s).

STEP 3:
Pressure accumulator 1 function:
- If the STEP 2 measured pressure is less than
PAR_BoomPressureBucketFullLimit (100bars as default), open an
accumulator 1 and the tank valve.
- After the valve is opened wait for 500ms.

STEP 4:
Pressure accumulator 2 function:
- If the STEP 2 measured pressure is equal to or greater than
PAR_BoomPressureBucketFullLimit (100bars as default), open an
accumulator 2 and the tank valve.
- After the valve is opened wait for 500ms.

STEP 5:
Controlling the boom and the pump:
- Lift the boom once again if it is lowered back to its limit switch when the
accumulators were opened. Lower limit switch sensor is filtered for 100ms.

Monitoring the boom control:


- The boom lifting is stopped when the boom is lifted over the lower limit
switch. Filtering time for the limit switch sensor is 100ms.
- If the boom is not lifted over the limit switch sensor within
PAR_MaxTimeForBoomLift defined time (3s as default), an alarm is given
and the sequence jumps to STEP 7.

STEP 6:
Ride control active and the function monitoring:
- The boom control stays unchangeable. The bucket joystick status is
monitored. If the bucket is being controlled, the accumulator and tank valve
is closed for the bucket controlling time. The accumulator and tank valve
are opened again once the bucket control is finished.
- If the boom joystick is turned either way the sequence jumps to STEP 0.
- If the ride control activation button is pressed, or if the parking brake is
activated, the sequence jumps to STEP 7.

Stopping the ride control:


- Reset the function and all the necessary outputs.

3.5 Gear control


The following conditions must be fulfilled before gear control is allowed

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)


• Emergency stop is not active (see Ch. 2.2)
• Motor is running
• Parking brake is released
• Door is closed
• Driving direction switch must be used in neutral position after parking brake is
released

3.6 Brake control


The following conditions must be fulfilled before the parking brake can be released

• Enable is active (see Ch. 2.1)


• Emergency stop is not active (see Ch. 2.2)
• Door is closed
• Motor is running
• Hydraulic oil level is in normal level
• Brake oil level is in normal level
• Reeling status is ok (see Ch. 2.3)

Additionally the following conditions must be met on auto mode


• Automode is active
• InfraFREE park brake release signal is active
• ABA control reset park brake signal is NOT active
• Brake valve control is allowed
o Brake valve control is allowed if the following conditions are fulfilled
 Manual mode park brake release is NOT active
 Automode park brake release is NOT active
 InfraFREE does NOT control the brakes
OR
 Brake release pump control is active

3.7 Converter lock control


The following conditions must be fulfilled before the converter lock control is allowed

• Converter lock on/off button XC1.17 DI is pressed


• Bucket is in hauling position
• Engine RPM is higher than lock up set limit which is 1900 RPM. Exceptions
for the limit
 1700: LH517 Volvo
 2000: LH517 Detroit
 1800: LH410 volvo and LH621 Volvo
• Gear is not changing
o Engine RPM is above the converter speed and the rotation speed
difference between the engine and the converter is not too high (400).
Exception for the speed difference are the following
 550: LH517 volvo
 600: LH512 Detroit, LH514 detroit
 685: LH514 Volvo
 700: LH410 Volvo, LH621 Volvo
 800: LH517 Detroit
OR
o Engine RPM is below the converter RPM and converter RPM is below
warning limit which is 2600. Exceptions for the warning limit are
following.
 2200: LH621 Volvo
 2300: Volvo engines in LH514, LH517 and LH621 Tier 2 13L
 2400: All Detroit engines
 2500: All Mercedes and Volvo LH307 and LH410

OR alternatively if converter output based lock up is selected


• Converter RPM should be above the lock on RPM which is 1500. Exceptions
