Electronic Spreadsheet Assignment (ES5)


Topics Covered:

Mr. Kushagra Jain is in the business of supplying stationary to academic institutions. He


spends lot of money on advertising his business to get more clients. The expenditure details
are given in a text file as mentioned below.

1. Handling External Data


Create a text file in Notepad containing the following and save it as expenditure.txt:

ID Quantity Social Media


Sold Advertising

SP001_2 8500 2800

SP002 _5 4700 200

SP003_3 5800 400

SP004_2 7400 500

SP005_5 6200 3200

SP006_3 7300 1800

SP007_4 5600 900

Import this text file in a new worksheet so that all the values appear in adjacent
columns and save the excel file as Expenditure.xlsx.

2. Perform the following task on the excel file created above. [Use Statistical Function /
Data Analysis ToolPak]

 Find the Mean, Median, Mode and Std. Deviation of Quantity sold.
 The last digit of ID column represents unit price of the products. Create a column
Per Unit Price and extract the price from ID column using string function.
 Mr. Jain asked Mr. Mehta to find out if SM advertising the products has any effect
on the sales quantity of stationary at the existing price. [Hint: Find correlation
between Quantity and SMAdvertising].
 Also, Mr. Jain wants to know the extent of the effect if any.
 Mr. Jain is interested to know if the Price of products having IDs SP001, SP003,
SP005 and SP006 increases by Rs.2 and Advertising cost increases by 20%, then

what will be quantity sold for these products. Prepare a table to reflect the forecast
about the quantity to be sold. [Hint: Use Regression Line equation to do the
forecast]
