CASE STUDY
Unipark Condominium is a high-rise residential development
located in Kajang, Selangor. The condominium was completed
in 2 phases, where the 2nd phase was completed in 2017.
Unipark condominium consists of 20 floors with 640 units in
development. Our case study however focuses on block B of
Unipark Condominium (1062 sq. feet).
Problems :
• .The cast iron sewer of toilet is rusted.
• Vent pipe without cover.
• Water trap is leaking.

Conclusions:
1. Lack of water flowing through an exposed drain pipe
A small crack within the drain pipe.
2. . The vent pipe should be covered so that it can protect
the plumbing system from precipitation, debris and
prevent animals from climbing in.
3. Replace the bottle water trap as it is leaking.

•Sludge settled down per person – 30 liters/year

Estimate No. of peoples per one size Septic Tank =10, 20, 50, and 100 Then 2250/100=22.5=23

Total wasted water in 3 days: 2250person x (142Liters) x 3=958500I
Total sludge: 2250 x 30 x 2 =135000 Liter

• Assume that the septic tank should not be less than 1.8m.
As 1CUM=1000Liters
1093500/1000= 1094 CUM
Assume septic tank depth = 2 m UBBL minimum 1.80m
Length and breath ratio is 4:1 1094/23tank=47.6cum

= 23.8m2

Thumps rules You need to calculate size of septic tank by using some formulas, C = A + P (rq +ns)
Where, C is capacity of septic tank, A constant, P = number of users, r = minimum retention time, q =
average sewage flow in liters per person per day, n = number of years sludge will store and S = rate
of sludge accumulation in liter per person per year. In British code, A = 2000litres, rq + ns = 180litres,
so rounding formula, we will get C = 2000 liters + 2250(3x142+2x30)

Suppose we have to find with capacity of septic tank size for 100 users, put this value C = 2000 liters + 2250(3x142+2x30)
=1095500litters 1095500/1000=1095.5cum
1095/23tank=47.54 cum =47.6cum
•LxB=47.5/2
= 23.8m2
