My earliest experience with research work was during my Bachelor’s thesis
where we focused on developing a suitable application for reusable plastic in our day-to-day life. The very first experience in collecting different papers and learning the most recent updates in that domain was really stimulating to me and helped me push my creativity. After my Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, I pursued a Master’s Degree in Climate Science and Technology from IIT Bhubaneswar. During this period, I was able to pick up several important skills and developed a keen interest in earth sciences domain. For my Master’s thesis I focused on Lightning prediction in state of Odisha where the most lightning activity in the country is observed. Exploring this subject was really engaging since not many publications were present in the modelling work on lightning for the Indian subcontinent. During this work I developed a better understanding on how different dynamic models are run and utilized for forecasting purposes. This led me to explore different parameterization schemes and approaches used to represent the capture various weather events. This is when I studied the radiative transfer models implemented for the Weather Research Forecasting (WRF) model. For my PhD I want to explore and understand the radiative transfer processes essential for the Ocean and develop suitable models for different scenarios. Furthermore, I want to develop my skill set towards satellite remote sensing and learn how different satellite information can be utilized for real life problems. To work towards this goal, I have been working in IIT Madras as a research Associate for the past few months and have been involved in developing a Radiative Transfer Model for the task assigned. Given my background and skillset I am confident I will be a good fit for the institute and work well within the Ocean Engineering department in IIT Madras.
