These categories are based on the material's uniqueness and closeness to the source or origin. This tells us whether the author is providing firsthand facts or communicating the experiences and opinions of others, which is termed second hand. Identifying whether a source is primary or secondary may be difficult. Primary sources of data These sources are recordings of. events or facts as they were initially recorded or occurred, with no interpretation or commentary. It is new knowledge or original materials on which other research is based. They frequently attempt to describe or understand original sources. These are usually works that summarize, interpret, rearrange, or otherwise add value to an original source. Examples of secondary sources Textbooks, edited works, magazine, newspaper, documentarion, histories, biographies, literary criticism and essays.
