5 PDCOM interface Mounting (with VPIS/VDS)

Hardware interfaces (PDCOM interface)

The following interfaces are located on the
backplate of the device:
• 1 connector for PDCOM (J10)
- The connector is standard DB9 straight-through
• 1 connector for VPIS/VDS (J12) (Phoenix connector)
• 1 connector for CAP divider (J11)

Commercial code: 1VCF681000S0104

If the device is installed inside an enclosed

cabinet, please check that there is enough
space all round so that the connectors and
cables can be fitted.
In case the device is installed in the front door of
the panel (low voltage area) the following
procedure must be used. It is made by following
steps:
• Step 1: Identify the VPIS/VPIS

Figure 3: VIS

•Step 2: VPIS/VDS Wires connection options

- Option 1: choose a VIS interface with the

same connector of your VPIS/VDS, so you
can connect the wires to the VIS interface
and the to the VPIS/VDS with very short
wires or if not possible shielded wires.

Figure 4: VIS interface connection

- Option 2: if VIS interface connectors are

different from your VPIS/VDS connectors
you can make 3 adapter cables. These
cables should be very short (3 centimeters
maximum).
DISTRIBUTION SOLUTIONS 9

Figure 5: Adapter cables

- Case 3: if adapter cables need to be longer

than 3 centimeters a shielded wire must be
used and the shield must be connected to
the VPIS/VDS cables earth (see Figure 8 and
Figure 10 for hearth connection).

Figure 6: Shielded adapter cables

10 PDCOM – INSTALLATION MANUAL

• Step 3: install the VIS interface:
- Connect the 3 phases (see connector J11 in
Figure 18). The VPIS/VDS should be
connected in series, between the capacitor
divider (4.1a) and the VPIS/VDS (4.1b).

Figure 7: VIS interface connection with VPIS/VDS

What is key with the grounding in general is to

avoid ground loops. For this reason, the shield of
the cable connecting the capacitive coupler to the
installation kit should be grounded on one side
only. We strongly advise to connect the shield to
the installation kit.

ground to the same hearth

hearth. In this case be sure to use a wire with an
adequate section to ground the VIS interface (it’s
recommended use cables with section 2,5 mm2).

• Step 4: Install the PCDOM in the LV cabinet, closest

to VIS interface and connect the cable between the
VIS interface and the PDCOM (5.2).

- Connect the ethernet cable 5.3 to the SWICOM or

to the previous PDCOM if more than one is
installed.

• As a general note, the ground connection between

the PDCOM, VIS interface and shielded cables
should always be as short as possible.

6 PDCOM interface Mounting (without VPIS/VDS)

Commercial code: 1VCF681000S0105

• Step 1: Refer to Capacitive divider installation

• Step 2: Install the VIS interface:
- connect the 3 phases. The VIS Interface should be
connected to the capacitor divider (4.1a). The
connector J12 of the VIS Interface (see Figure 19:
PDCOM electrical scheme without VISFigure 19) should have

a dedicated connector with capacitors (4.1b),
