1. Refrigeration - cooling of a space, substance or system to lower and/or maintain its
temperature below the ambient one. 2. Cooling – the process of removing the heat of a substance or system in to a much lower temperature. 3. Air Conditioning – is the process of removing heat from an enclosed space to achieve a more comfortable interior environment (sometimes referred to as "comfort cooling") and in some cases also strictly controlling the humidity of internal air. 4. Freezing – is a phase transition where a liquid turns into a solid when its temperature is lowered below its freezing point. 5. Evaporation – the process by which a liquid turns into a gas. 6. Condensation – is the process where water vapor becomes liquid. 7. Evaporator – is a vessel or stage which turns a liquid into vapor. Where the isothermal heat addition takes place in a vapor compression cycle. 8. Condenser – is a vessel or stage which turns a vapor into liquid. Where the isothermal heat rejection takes place in a vapor compression cycle. 9. Expansion Valve – removes pressure from the liquid refrigerant to allow expansion or change of state from a liquid to a vapor in the evaporator. 10. Compressor – a mechanical device that increases the pressure of a gas by reducing its volume. 11. Coefficient of Performance – the COP of heat pump, refrigerator or air conditioning system is a ratio of useful heating or cooling provided to work (energy) required.
