Introduction

The right to association is one of the basic human rights found in the Ethiopian constitution and the international
human rights covenants that Ethiopia has accepted and ratified. Article 31 of the Federal Constitution states that
citizens can organize for any legal purpose. The international and regional covenants that Ethiopia has accepted
also state this. In addition to the right to organize, they play significant role for the respect and development of
other fundamental rights.

Debre Tabor University Law Students' Association is also a manifestation of the right to organize. The association
facilitates different ways for law school students to gain basic knowledge about law and similar issues during their
stay at the school, and plays an important role in maintaining hormonal relations between the students and the
school community and for the more utilized use of resources and for the help of one another in the school life
time and for strengthening unity and togetherness as law students this association play significant role. DTULSA
will effort to give a comprehensive and continuous support and direction for junior students by the senior ones
and for providing a forum by which students may take part in solving their society’s legal problems.

I have heard many times that there are law students' associations in different universities, from realizing this I
always wondered why they don't form an association in our school. Thanks for some students and staff members
now we are formed the association through their great endeavor. I believe Debre tabor university law students
association ( here in after DTULSA) must not appear as an association created by a number of active participants.
Rather all law students should have engaged in active way. And in cases of opportunities that would benefit law
students regardless of their degree of involvement in the association DTULSA must and will stay away.
Inclusiveness and creating a one-team spirit is a top priority. Our association has brought together different batch
of law students with amazing skill, energy and talent for the sole purpose of strengthening our unity as law students
standing together to become the best versions of ourselves.

I am interested in becoming an executive member of the Law association. Because first of all, I want to make a
difference by leading the association. Also, I want to play my role in helping my law students by providing good
leadership in the association. So, I want to run for this election because I want to use my experience and passion
for management in order to create a safe and abuse-free environment for my fellow students. Which will also
expand the scope of our club to the larger communities in the university. I want to be an example to others by
doing incredible things for the association. Here in this working plan proposal i enlisted the activities that I will
undertake I will be selected as executive committee.
1. Work experience and skills that I have

There is a common saying that says “to lead is to serve” and if I get the chance to become executive member of
DTULSA I will serve the association with all that I have got. Throughout my life journeys, I got various leadership
experiences and I am currently serving in different positions amongst them,

➢ On behalf of Debre Tabor University, I am a founding member of the Ethiopian Youth Council, which
advises on youth issues throughout the country.
➢ I am also serving as the head of early warning and rapid response executor in Debre Tabor University
Peace Forum.
➢ I also participated in the first round of Debre Tabor University law students' moot court competition held
last year.

I have the ability to speak English, Amharic languages fluently. Also, among the most important things for law
students these days, basic computer knowledge is crucial. This computer knowledge has also developed in
different ways. The ability to communicate with people and understand their thoughts easily, good leadership
skills are among the characteristics that describe me. My participation in extracurricular activities allowed me to
learn how to effectively balance the tasks with which I was assigned. In addition, I have learned skills like
organizing events, team working, and fundraising.

I believe that I have the necessary skill, experience and ability to lead and advance our association. Through
experience I have seen what needs to be done, in the day-to-day activities, what needs to be improved and I have
had the chance to talk with a number of fellow students on their expectations. So, I want to run for this election
because I want to use my experience and passion for management in order to create a safe and abuse-free
environment for my fellow students. Which will also expand the scope of our club to the larger communities in
the university. As a result, I am sure that with the executive board that is going to be elected we can fulfill the
needs of the association. So, I am here to serve!
2. What I plan to do if I am elected as an executive board member of Debre Tabor
Law Students Association

“Each of us can make a difference. Together we make a difference" Barbara Mikulski

As we can see from this quote, we can all make a difference. But it requires cooperation and empathy. We must
be united. Unity is power, we can do everything together. If I am elected as the executive committee of the
association, I plan to do the following works in each field in collaboration with other committees.

2.1.Regarding the association structural orientation

❖ In order to undertake the day-to-day activities of law associations working office is necessary. The first
step to be take is to have this office.in collaboration with those concerned body I will endeavor to have this.
❖ create a reliable, comprehensive and strong union that fights for the rights of law students. This is focused
on the structural unity of the association and to strengthen the pillars on which it stands. Therefore, I will
work to ensure that the union fights and stands up for causes that require such actions. As well as creating
trust and a sense of belonging among members. To create an association that creates a sense of struggle
and a sense and affirmation that we have an association to call our own.
❖ building trust and a sense of belongingness among the members of JULSA. This is more of a member-
oriented approach that creates a sense of comradery and the feeling and assurance that we have an
association that we can call our own It is all about claiming what is already our own.
❖ In addition to the association different clubs under the association play vital role in helping the law students
and over all the university community. With the other executive committee, I will form different clubs
under the association such as human right club, female law students club etc.
❖ In the course of establishing an organization having unique logo is very important for the entire activities
of the work. Here in the proposal paper, I attached the next would-be logo which was created by me if it
will be selected by the committees. I will create different social media platforms to the association to
promote and foster the dissemination of relevant legal information to the whole community of the
university and to others.
❖ Regarding the fund-raising activities I will work with different governmental and non-governmental
institutions to support our associations. And also, through preparing different activities I will manage the
association to be placed in better financial positions to undertake the day-to-day activities. I believe work
must be done on law library resources first and the association's focus must be on soliciting this agenda to
the college. An alternative solution to this problem can be found from the experiences of some public
schools in Ethiopia: individual donors from here and abroad, preferably former students of the law school,
donating materials as a way to give back to the school they went to; in fact, if you think about it we can
start with our beloved teachers and heads right here in our campus
2.2.Regarding strengthening the association's relationship with other institutions
❖ I will work with other clubs in the university to organize a committee that will handle and resolves if
students face abuse. This will create a safe learning environment for students and It will also strengthen
the collaboration among other clubs in the university.
❖ One of the things that make institutions to have better work activities is to have good relations and making
of experience exchanging activities with other similar institutions. During the times that I work in the
association, I will work on the association to have experiences exchanging events with the best law student
associations. For example, creating a good relationship with the Hawassa University Law Students
Association and others, as well as the recently established Ethiopian Law Students Association and
through participating on the meetings that will be held by Ethiopian law students’ association I will
endeavor in gaining experience by interacting with legal associations which will help our association.
❖ To co-operate with other agencies both Governmental and Non-Governmental in preparation,
Organization and administration of schemes and programs for the benefit of the law students.

Among the institutions that play a significant role in the Ethiopian justice system, the Ethiopian Human Rights
Commission and the Federal Institute of Justice and Legal Research and Training are mentioned. In addition to
providing various support to law schools, these institutions facilitate various modes of mock trial competition in
law schools. Hence through making good relation on behalf of the association I will convince them to support our
association through providing helping materials and to organize different events in our school like moot court
competitions debates etc.

❖ I will work with the Debre tabor town high court to organize an experience-sharing event which could be
virtual or in person every six months. Where experienced law professionals will share their experience
with our members.
❖ In today's technologically advanced world, we may not be expected to attend meetings in person. In legal
matters, various institutions promote meetings and discussions through the Internet. we will have an active
social media session and we will have a telegram live chat and zoom meeting with different institutions
like Ethiopian women lawyers’ associations Ethiopian lawyers’ associations, Ethiopian law students’
associations etc. in law related field professionals. In addition to providing information for law students
to participate in these discussions, I will facilitate conditions, inform them where they will find these
meetings and create conditions where they can get fast internet access and space to talk freely.
❖ Facilitating relations with the law school and "Action Aid Ethiopia" to allow the association to oversee
events where law students provide free legal assistance services to the community.
2.3. Regarding issues where students can develop their skills and abilities

Our university years are our golden opportunity to develop as much skills as possible that would help us in the
work arena and advance our careers. As a result, I will work to provide these opportunities. It includes preparing
internal or external moot courts, debates, public lectures panel discussions, essay competitions and the like in
collaboration with the Debre tabor University law school and other organizations.

❖ Moot court competition is one of the ways in which students can enhance and improve their theoretical
knowledge. When students participate in this competition, they will test their speaking skills and the
knowledge they have learned. I will open a moot court center at our university. I will start a moot court
trial which will help law students to develop essential skills such as public speaking, critical thinking, and
the art of forming a persuasive, cohesive argument and I will make great efforts to hold these competitions
in cooperation with other bodies of the law society. Also, I will try to identify the students who will
represent our school in the moot court competitions held among the law school students of our country
and provide different supports to achieve better results in the competition. I will try to arrange
opportunities for them to participate in international competitions by holding talks with various
institutions.
❖ By inviting guests from the judiciary ,graduated students ,teachers and other concerned bodies, I will held
different panel discussions on different selected topics and facilitated the platforms where discussions,
questions and opinions can be made.
❖ In cooperation with the teachers of the school, I will arrange different ways for those students who are
taking the national exam to get different supports that will help In the preparation of the exit exams for
instance to teaches the different courses, solving different previous exit exam questions. In addition to
these students there are students that needs different supports, I will provide different condition’s that
lecturers and high ranked students will give support to the weaker section of student and serve them by
participation in their struggle for education.
❖ In collaboration with the law school, I will facilitate conditions for students to participate in writings where
they can share their ideas and knowledge in various ways like participate in articles and researches law
journals, law reviews. Different universities and institutions on law offers different opportunities for
students to present and to take part in law reviews and journals hence trough contacting with them I will
work with them to give these chances for our students. Also, in addition to providing information for
students to participate in various writing contests offered by these institutions, I will provide various
support on behalf of the association.
❖ In addition to the basic legal knowledge that legal professionals need to know at present, basic computer
knowledge is an important knowledge that will not be wasted tomorrow. Also, the rule of citation is one
of the most important ways to cite someone else's writing when students are doing various presentations,
research papers, researches, etc. Therefore, computer knowledge is very important for students to do this
and similar issues. The current situation is better for students to improve their computer knowledge, which
means that the university has better resources. If I am elected, in collaboration with the ICT center of
Debre Tabor university I have strong commitment to help our students to get this training.
❖ I will give different training or to be held to all law students specially on how to be effective I law schools,
how to do assignments, how to cite different law related materials especially through following the school
rule of citation etc.
2.4. Regarding ways talents of our students in the intellectual and entertainment arena will
revealed and as to strengthen student relations.

There is a lot of unexplored routes and talents among our law students. So, I will work to create small groups or
teams that are dedicated to harness the talents of our students in the intellectual and entertainment arena. Specially;

❖ Among the educational choices that students want to study while entering university entering to law
school is the crucial one Hence for those who joined law schools needs some clarifications and directions
while they stay in the school. In addition to provide students with the necessary information and resources
to find, choose, and apply to law school, well come program is one of the main activities of our association
will undertake through organizing various events for students whose wishes and needs have been fulfilled
through various efforts. undertaking the well go programs for the graduates who are completing their law
studies also the activities of our association.
❖ Law students are the main students who often spend long hours studying and studying. Literature is one
of the ways to refresh a tired mind with ideas and a new spirit. Among law students, there are students
who have different gifts and talents. Literary and artistic events are one of the ways that these students
present their gifts to the audience. And I will organize different events that law students will participate
in literary and artistic events in collaboration with Alaka Gebre Hana Directorate of Culture and Studies.
❖ Another activity that shows students' abilities is sports participation. Law students have different skills in
the field of sports. Mainly football, handball, running are mentioned. In addition to the course, I work with
the University's Office of Sports and Recreation to form teams on behalf of the law school and to organize
competitions among law students to build relationships among law students. I will also organize different
friendship games with different unions, schools etc.
Conclusion

law students expected to be role model for the rest of the students both in discipline and academic efficiency and
that in order to bring about unity of the students, so as to be able to generate efficient and well-educated
professionals in the field of law certain association that bring them together is necessary. I Believing that to bring
hormonal relationship between and among the students, the staffs of the school and between the students and the
staffs and to give a comprehensive and continuous support and direction for junior students by the senior ones
establishing law association play vital role in order to implements the aforementioned activities.

Establishing law association will play important roles such as support and empower its member law students
through services, professional development and different local and international collaborations to become lawyers
committed to find a solution to the voluminous legal problems that the country faces and provide forum for the
school students to discuss topics related with communities and individual legal problems and help in putting a
way forward their ideas.

In there working plan proposal that enlisted in above all term pages I am strongly committed to achieve while in
the course of my working time in collaboration with other executive committees and the whole school
communities.
