GRADES: 7 – 9
Implementation: January 2023
Presentation Outline
Purpose

Amendments to the Annual Teaching Plan (ATP)

Amendments to School Based Assessment (SBA)

Conclusion
Purpose
Purpose
• To show the outline of the content for this phase for
2023 and 2024;
• To mediate the Amended Annual Teaching Plan
(ATP) and the School Based Assessment for Natural
Sciences & Technology, Grades 7 – 9 for
implementation from January 2023 to December 2024;
• To ensure meaningful teaching and learning for 2023
and 2024 against the backdrop of the 2020 and 2021
circumstances occasioned by the Coronavirus;
• To enable teachers to bridge missed content - skills,
knowledge, values, and attitudes – from previous
grades and covering content for the current grade;
Amendments to the Annual
Teaching Plan(ATP)
Amendments to the Annual
Teaching Plan
• The Amended ATP for Natural Sciences
has the same content as in CAPS, but
with some minor adjustments such as:
– Removal of some content;
– Reduced time for some topics;
– Increased time for some topics;
– Previous grade’s content in the next grade;
Amendments to the Annual
Teaching Plan
• The current textbooks still remain relevant for
use, but noting the omitted content in the
Amended ATP for Natural Sciences &
Technology;
• In some instances, a grade has to have
textbooks for both the current and the previous
grade;
• In all the grades 2 weeks have been
allocated for remediation, revision, and
consolidation

Amendments to School Based
Assessment (SBA)
Summary: Programme of Assessment
• Both formal and informal assessment should
continue as normal, and as stated in the Revised
Section 4 of the Natural Sciences & Technology
CAPS;
• The development of Science Process Skills is key
to the teaching and learning of the subject;
• Recording of informal assessment is left to the
discretion of the teacher;
• Learners should read and write regularly to
develop language skills as well;
