What drives a person to become a teacher? or what motivates a person to teach?

Does their love for

children drive them to teach, or does their own love of learning make them passionate about teaching.
Many of us have had a teacher in our lives who has inspired, touched our hearts, and changed our lives.
“The greatest miracle in life is meeting a good teacher when we are little.”

Teaching has been one of the most important professions in every period of humanity. All people who
have accomplished important things in the world from the past to the present have had a teacher who
reveals and supports the gem in them, and there is always a need for this.An idealistic teacher not only
conveys information, but encourages the individual to be good and beautiful. It reveals the innate talents
by shedding light on them. It gives the power to help the person realize himself. An idealistic teacher
does not limit himself only to the curriculum, he knows the value of thinking and making others think
and has a free consciousness. Just like Mrs Johnson in Dangerous Mind and Mr Keating in Dead Poet
Society. Although the time, conditions and many factors in which these two films take place are
different, in both films, how an idealistic teacher touches the lives of her/his students and changes them
is impressively told.

In the movie Dangerous mind, Mrs. Johnson tells the story of "social problem", that is, the reintegration
of intelligent but problematic young people into society. These young people are marginalized by the
society because they are from a different socio-cultural background. Because no one, not even their
families, guides them and their talents are not discovered, they are unwilling to learn and unconfident,
even if they are talented. They are not in a hierarchy that can reach their own selves yet. According to
Maslow's hierarchy, in order for a person to realize his own self, he must first complete his physiological
needs so that he can reach the next steps, security and love / belonging. Unfortunately, these students
come from poor families and some from broken families. But when fate crossed paths with Mrs.
Johnson, luck smiled on them too. This idealistic teacher gave them a purpose. She believed in these
students, whom everyone marginalized and did not give a chance, and always approached them with
love and presented them to life as "problem-free" individuals. By first analyzing the individuals who are
not eager to learn and then attracting their attention, she made them participate in the lesson. And each
time she rewarded them to motivate them. Thus, the teacher made the students interested in the lesson
with these motivational tools.

Another idealist teacher who inspired his students in the dead poet society, which is another movie I
mentioned, is Mr. Keating. Mr.Keating has given his students the courage they need to manage their own
lives , whose lives have been decided by their parents since birth and who live in their parents' shadow.
Realizing their self-awareness and abilities, students take Mr. Keating as an example to reveal their
desires and dreams. To follow in his footsteps, they make the word "carpe diem" their philosophy of life.
Mr. Keating has not only adopted idealism, but also carries traces of existentialism in himself. Because
the purpose of existentialism is to enable the individual to develop their individuality and to increase the
individual's freedoms. According to an existentialist teacher, freedom is important for education. The
fact that Mr. Keating made his students arouse interest in art also disturbed the families. Due to his
violation of the curriculum and his failure to comply with certain patterns, he receives reactions from
other teachers, and in the end, Mr. Keating, who is so devoted to his profession and does his job with
love, is suspended.
These two films inspire us that no matter the circumstances, we always have another option in life.
People, especially young people, need good role models. In fact, even individuals who have been pushed
by society with a little faith, love and will end up can be brought into society. “Man has to go deep in
order to reach underground water. The mines underground are very valuable, but it is necessary to work
and uncover them, and so is man, if we do not put forth the beauty and talents in him, they will
disappear without being noticed” (Grigory Petrov).
