Point Loma Nazarene University

Point Loma Nazarene University is located in California in the city San Diego. PLNU is

an abbreviated form of Point Loma Nazarene University. The application at PLNU is 55 dollars

to apply and if you are not accepted, you do not get your money back. The tuition for PLNU is

20,200 dollars half a year and 40,400 dollars for a full year, though your tuition can change by

financial aid. An average year of living at PLNU is 12,574 dollars with average dining at

university, the dorm fund, and general fee. There is financial aid included, which helps students

with their tuition. The financial aid helps them lower the cost of the tuition therefore, the students

at PLNU can get help with their cost to attend the school. According to the website,

“pointlomaedu.com”, PLNU has an average of 92% of undergraduates who are offered any type

of aid in 2020-21. This gives an opportunity for people that need help financially and are capable

of being at university.

At PLNU, GPA is not as important. Volunteering for the community, clubs, and sports is

more important than having a GPA. This is one of PLNU’s priorities because your impact on the

community is important to officials there. The average 3.8 GPA does not matter. The school

looks for more on volunteering and how much you connect or work for your community. Though

the school doesn't look for a GPA, the students still try even if it is not a requirement to get in.

One example of a quiz that students must have prior knowledge for and be able to prepare is a

mathematics test, which has a duration of 90 minutes. This is one of the tests that PLNU students

have to do.

PLNU offers many majors such as environmental science, athletic training, criminal

justice, art, and finance. The school does not offer a PHD program for the students. This is a

downfall at PLNU because there is no way to officially get a PHD. Retention rates are the

percentage of the number of students staying at the university. The retention rate at PLNU for

students is 89.1%. This is important because it is the metric rate to measure the number of people

attending at PLNU after units and semesters. It could change the duration of people staying at the

university. The graduation rate is 77.1%. This is the amount of people that graduate from the

school. Admission rates are the amount of people that make it into the university. The student's

admission rate is 83.6%. This can affect the amount of students and the demands of the school.

According to this information, out of 100 people, only 77 graduate.

Sports such as Basketball, Dodgeball, Sand Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Ultimate

Frisbee Volleyball, and many more are provided by PLNU. The mascot for the school is a sea

lion named Roary. They chose it because they wanted a change in their mascot, which previously

was Crusaders. It signifies the importance of the school. PLNU was founded in 1902 and started

as a Christian School with 4,000 pledges to god. Steven Lenhart, a popular soccer player,

attended this school and was a freshman in 2004. This university is a smoke-free and alcohol free

campus. PLNU has 3 campuses, the undergraduate campus in Point Loma and graduate programs

at regional centers in Bakersfield and Mission Valley in San Diego. 98% of PLNU students pass

the CBEST. There are many traditions held at this university such as shaping a community and

building more faith in Christianity, enhancing the quality of the community, and focusing on

community service.

Personally, we would not attend this university. We feel they are intensely religious, as

we are not. The campus stands out as it has its own traditions that make it a good school. We

recommend this school for people in the Christian religion, as it can help you grow in your

religious beliefs and also help your education. If you are religious, this school might be the one

for you.
