There was - There were: Introduction

Hi guys!
Welcome to the grammar section, in our last session, we have seen the past simple of the
verb TO BE.
Now, we are going to continue using the past, but with a different structure. Do you want
to know more about that? Then, let us begin!

THERE IS THERE WAS


(Present tense) (Past tense)

There was is used when you refer to one thing or person.

Singular:

There was a terrible earthquake in 2007.

There was a nice christmas party at UTP last year.

THERE ARE THERE WERE


(Present tense) (Past tense)

There was is used when you refer to one thing or person.

Plural:

There were big computers in the 70´s.

There were many people at the christmas party.
