Assignment 3

Assume you are carrying out a study entitled: "Malaria transmission is a function of
environmental hygiene".
(a) State two objectives that may be associated with this title
(b) For each objective in (a), list variables that you will measure. Please note that each variable
should be categorized either as;
i. Independent variable
ii. Dependent variable
(c) State important universal variables that you will also measure

For the whole assignment do not exceed 2 pages including the cover page.

Malaria transmission is a function of environmental hygiene

Environmental conditions play an important role in the transmission of malaria; therefore, regulating
these conditions can help to reduce the disease burden. Environmental management practices for
disease control can be implemented at the community level to complement other malaria control
methods (Randell et al., 2010).
Objectives
1. To assess current knowledge and practices related to mosquito ecology and environmental
management for malaria control in traditional authority Khonsolo by 2024
2. To assess the actual efficacy of environmental management practices in controlling the
transmission of malaria in traditional authority Khonsolo by 2024

Objectives (1)
1. Knowledge
2. Environmental management
3. Place
4. Malaria prevalence
5. Malaria incidence
