Technology Position Statement

As an online English teacher, I believe literacy, including digital literacy, is the foundation of
education. I believe that these skills are needed for all other academic disciplines, as well as their daily
lives. Technology is an essential part of my student's education and personal lives. My main goal is to
ensure my students leave my class with exceptional critical thinking skills, so they can become successful,
independent members of society. It is important that I help my students learn to evaluate digital material
critically. I incorporate a variety of activities and assignments to help my students explore how to be
responsible, positive digital learners and citizens.

Students are taught to value online communication because it is a vital part of our society. I strive
to create an environment where all students respect each other and learn to value others’ differences. I
encourage my students to collaborate and depend on each other. This helps students learn to reflect on
their own strengths or appreciate their differences. This can happen even without having a classroom to
gather in every day. Technologies such as Zoom and Google Meet allow me to create a welcoming,
collaborative online classroom environment.

My responsibility is to serve my students each day and provide them with a quality, inclusive
education that is centered around technology. My students will be offered alternative ways to complete or
submit work. It is important for teachers to remember that all students learn differently and may lack
access to certain forms of technology. I know the importance of assessing the instructional benefits of new
tools and resources before incorporating them into my lessons. My philosophy of education and
technology will continue to change as I grow as an educator. I’m dedicated to constantly improving and
gaining more knowledge on digital citizenship and educational technology.
