Green book (post movie questions)

What did Tony learn from Dr Shirley?

⁃ Tony learn how to speak formally with other people when they first meet. Dr Shirley taught him
manners, be respectful with others and use appropriate language. Without Tony knowing, from
being just a driver to being friend with Dr Shirley he learn how to not judged others based from their
skin colour(racist)

What did Dr Shirley learn from Tony?

⁃ Dr Shirley learn how to be more open of himself (to speak for himself/defend his beliefs or respect,
to not keep everything only to himself, make the first move/step of saying/choosing something). He
learn how to enjoy himself with others rather than being alone/drinking alone. After being with
Tony, Dr Shirley become more happier and brighter than his past self which a syrict, formal, boring
life.
⁃ Shirley's justified fears about having to always appear as respectable and non-threatening as
possible, but met with Tony, he mocking assertions that Shirley should just loosen up and enjoy
himself, because racism isn’t really that big a deal

What are the examples of racism and prejudice that you see in the film?
When Dr. Shirley and Tony were traveling to a performance location. They are stopped by a police
officer, there were 2 police officers. Dr. Shirley was in the backseats when the officer checked Tony's
driver's license and identification card, and he informed them that black people are not permitted in
the area where they halt (sun town?). At that point, the rain was pouring heavily, and the policeman
ordered his partner to remove Dr. Shirley from the vehicle. However, the other officer responded
that it was raining. The other officer doesn't care and orders him to drag Dr. Shirley out of the
vehicle with force. Later, while Tony tried to bargain with the officer, the officer made a derogatory
remark about Tony. Tony was insulted by the officer's claim that Tony's Italian blood was mixing with
little black people's blood. Tony then punches the officer in the face while his teammates point a gun
at him. Later, inside the jail, the policeman and his friend make racial and skin-color insults against
Dr. Shirley. This demonstrates the police officer's racism and hostility toward black people and
anything associated with them.

What are the values shown in the film?

⁃ A black man who is justifiably wary of a world which repeatedly attempts to murder/insult him for
his skin colour has the same amount of soul-searching and personal transformation to undertake as
a white racist, and that those two people simply spending time together will solve racism.
⁃ The phrase 'Green Book' refers to the era's directory of places that offered safety, comfort and a
haven from racism for people of colour
What did you learn from the film?
⁃ The story the movie tells us is not just a history but a reality going on everyday
⁃ Don’t judge other or insulting them just because they are different (skin colour)
⁃ Being too kind will make individuals to take advantage on us and try to bring us down.
⁃ Just because they’re different it doesn’t mean that they need to be restricted to buy or to eat in
some places
⁃ The friendship between white and black men who time to time become more understanding of
each other’s situation or problem

Give a short review of the film.

Green Book is as smooth as they come, this film covers a lot of things at once and it does it so
seamlessly and effortlessly and the credit for that goes to two amazingly talented leads who shape
this film to what it is, an affectionate friendship story, considering that this is based on actual real-
life story and how hard is to put together something worth telling without slipping to no man's land
of storytelling is amazing in and of itself, but this film doesn't stop there it offers a heartwarming
story between seemingly opposite men but deep down they're the same. This movie shows different
dilemmas faced by both the characters. Some of the dialogues will directly strike through your heart
