Theory: 5.1 Explain the differences between verse and

prose

VERSE PROSE

a) Makes a shape on the page.
Written in lines and verses/stanzas.
b) Has rhythm/beat. If the rhythm is
regular we call it METRE. There
may be rhyme too.
c) Does not have to follow the rules of
grammar. There may not be
punctuation marks. Lines may
begin with capital letters.
d) The language is often heightened,
colourful and emotional to affect and
challenge the reader.
a) Fills the page from left to right.
Written in sentences and
paragraphs.
b) The words have a natural flow
without a regular rhythm.
Rhyme is very unlikely.
c) It usually follows the rules of
grammar. A sentence starts
with a capital letter and
punctuation shows the meaning.
d) Language is mostly simple to
help the reader to easily follow
the story.
