BANGLADESH:

The official name of the country is the People's Republic of Bangladesh, its located in the South of
Asia and its capital is Dhaka, the biggest city. The national and officials language is the Bengali and
it made up the 98% of the population.
Bangladesh is the 92nd-largest country in land area, making it one of the most densely-populated
countries in the world. Bangladesh shares land borders with India, Myanmar, Bay of Bengal.
The country is situated at both sides from the tropic of cancer, has a tropical climate with a soft
winter from October to March and a hot and wet summer from March to June. A warm and humid
season lasts from June to October and supplies most of the country's rainfall. The cyclones of 1970
and 1991 were particularly devastating, killing almost 140,000 people. Bangladesh is one of the
countries most vulnerable to climate change. Over the century, 508 cyclones have affected the Bay
of Bengal region.

In 1947, India was divided, and Bengala (the old name of Bangladesh) was separated as well by
religious tendencies, the occidental part became a territory of India and the oriental part joined to
Pakistan like a province called East Bengala. In 1956, when the new Constitution of Pakistan was
declared, East Bengala becomes called East Pakistan. The people of the country was really angry
because all the resources were designated to the army, they claimed a regional autonomy and
wanted to establish an autonomous government. A cause of that complaints the Pakistani militaries
took hash reprisals against the people. East Pakistan passed to call Bangladesh, decelerating the
independence.

Although the efforts that the country had made, like improve the economic, Bangladesh remains a
developing country. Most of the food produced in the country is consumed abroad, due it an alliance
between landowners and the export industry. Agriculture is the largest sector of the economy, most
of the population lives from agriculture than from any other sector. The country is among the top
producers of rice, potatoes, tropical fruits and farmed fish. Its currency is called Bangladeshi Taka,
1 taka is 0.011€.
The constitution grants freedom of religion and officially makes Bangladesh a secular state, while
establishing Islam as the "religion of the Republic". Islam is followed by 90 % of the population.
Most Bangladeshis are Bengali Muslimsn and hinduism is followed by 8.5 % of the population

The Bangladeshi musical tradition is based on lyrics, with minimal instrumental accompaniment.
The Baul tradition is a unique heritage of Bangladesh folk music, and there are many other musical
traditions that vary from region to others.
The culinary tradition has similar things with Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine, but it also has its
own unique characteristics, like rice and curry are the most traditional ingredients. They also make
several milk candies very typical of the country.
The sari is the most used clothing among Bangladeshi women, and men wear a kurta-pajama
combination.
There are also famous places like the Baliati Palace, the Star Mosque, Kana Raja’ Cave…
Around eighty films a year are produced in the country, and the main Indian films are also very
popular. On August 27, 2016, "Under construction", a film by Bangladeshi director Rubaiyat
Hossain, won the Islantilla Luna Grand Prix for Best Film at the 9th International Film Festival of
Islantilla (Huelva, Spain), as well as the Luna de Islantilla for Best Actress, which was also for
Bangladeshi actress Shahana Boswani.
