Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and Barcelona Province, located in the northeast
of the Iberian Peninsula, adjacent to the Mediterranean Sea. The city has a
population of 1.6 million and a metropolitan area population of 5 million. Barcelona
is one of the 50 must-see attractions selected by National Geographic magazine in
1999 and attracts a large number of tourists every year. With over 30,000 Chinese
residents, Barcelona has about 100 Chinese restaurants, making Chinese cuisine the
third most popular cuisine after Spanish and French. Jenisia is a Chinese food
restaurant company with five restaurants in Spain, including one in Barcelona. Their
largest restaurant, with an area of 2,000 square meters, is the target of the
renovation project. We are Xiaoma, a Barcelona-based design company specializing
in bars and restaurants. Our services include brand logo design, interior decoration,
material purchase, menu rectification, and web construction. We work with Panda
Construction Company, a reputable construction company in Barcelona with a team
of experienced professionals. Our project lasts for 8 months with a budget of
300,000 euros, covering design, construction, web construction, furniture
installation, and the overall completion process.

Ensuring an effective communication flow is an integral part of the project delivery process.
Companies working to support a project need affective and open communication at various
stages to ensure there is no gap between the strategies and execution of the project. For the
following project, communication is needed to be conducted between three parties. The
restaurant owner, construction company and Xioma’s management are collectively working
to develop a restaurant branding project in Barcelona. The project manager holds a critical
value in streamlining the communication channels for all the parties working for the project.
As an integral part of the project the project manager needs to lay communication Metrix till
the end of the project. It’s important for all stakeholders to be intimated about the project
development and challenges according at various milestones. An effective communication
would ensure timely delivery of the project and a supportive environment for the rest of the
team.
Communication extended through the external and internal stakeholders would be organized
through a variety of mediums. For internal communications mostly the medium of physical
communication would be adapted. For external stakeholders the medium of communication
would be would be through video calls, emails, telephone calls. Since external stakeholders
are not always accessible physically, maintaining communication channels would help
reaching out the relevant departments at any point of time. The communicative sessions
would be utilized for planning, brainstorming and discussion of the stakeholders about
establishment of deliverables. Moreover, the communication exercises would help all the
stake holders designate meaning and time lines for the fulfillment of the objectives set by the
project.

The project aims to establish and design an urban and modern restaurant in Barcelona. The
restaurant needs to be modern yet elegant. It is designed in a manner where the aesthetics of
restaurant are comfortably aligned with the localized culture of Barcelona. The restaurant
would comprise of a functional area with a dining facility of approx. 30 guests. The furniture
design and décor (lightings and decoration items) would be given a soothing yet modern
touch. The lighting of the restaurant would be subtle to infuse a serenity in the dining
experience. The interior design of the restaurant is geared towards the Spanish traditions.
There would be a separate dining area for music lovers and smoking persons while the rest of
the design would be focused towards catering to different segments of the customer. The wall
hangings would be a testament of the project’s cultural relevance.
Keeping in consideration the initial planning phases and feedback cycles the project is
expected to formally start in March of 2023 after obtaining all necessary permits for building
a structural design. The project manager is responsible for planning and executing the entire
project keeping in view the requirements of the final client (Restaurant owner). Moreover, he
is required to coordinate with the representative of the construction company while moving
the designs back and forth for feedback of the construction company. The project manager is
in charge of the entire project plan and maximum responsibility about the project is delegated
to him.
Design
Once the plan progresses to the next stage the design team is taken on board for the
finalization of measurements, fitting requirements and over all structural design as per the
client’s demands. The designs would be submitted to the final client for acquiring relevant
feedback.
Legal documentation
Once the design plans are approved by the client, construction company and other team
members alike, the next step is to secure relevant paper work for the legal documentation. The
legal documentation is required to attain approvals for the design plans of the company
Procurement
After securing the legal permits, the purchasing/procurement manager needs to actively list
the raw materials required for executing those designs. He needs to demonstrate an effective
knowledge about the market suppliers and engage in profitable deals for sourcing necessary
equipment and products needed to implement the design plans.
Product scope
As mentioned earlier, the ambiance and structural design of the restaurant would be curated
keeping a serene environment as the top priority. Barcelona has a fairly developed culinary
industry therefore customer engagement is important. The design of the restaurants aims to be
traditional and minimal yet engaging enough to provide customers with a great dining
experience.
