CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND

Introduction

Many students are currently struggling as the government gradually returns to the

usual activities that most people were accustomed to prior to the pandemic. In addition, Vice

President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte issued DepEd Order (DO) 44, series of 2022,

which allows private and public schools to continue holding five-day face-to-face classes, a

blended learning modality, or a full distance learning activity. This order includes the many

sorts of learning activities, as well as the intended face-to-face sessions in both public and

private institutions. This decree has sparked heated debate among teachers and the

administration. This order has been granted and is now being implemented in various schools

throughout the Philippines. The research aims to assess how the students of Pablo Roman

Senior High School face and explore the different kinds of challenges in new normal set-up.

The COVID 19 pandemic has brought about changes to education system, particularly

the shift to online and face-to-face classes with health protocols. This new normal set up

present challenges to senior high school students has they navigate through face-to-face

classes such as adjusting to new classroom procedures, and managing anxiety and stress. In

this study, we explore the challenges and their impacts on the academic performance and

well-being of senior high students in face-to-face classes.

The shift to a normal set up has presented various challenges for senior high school

students attending face to face classes. It is important to understand these challenges in order

to come up with effective strategies to help students overcome them and achieve their

2
academic goals. This research aims to explore and address the motivational factors that can

help SHS students navigate the difficulties brought about by this new normal set up.

Statement of the Problem

This section contains the purpose statement and the research question(s). The study

aims to know the different factors about new normal set-up in face-to-face classes.

Specifically, it seeks answer to the following:

1. What is the demographic profile of the students-respondents in terms of:

1.1 Age;

1.2 Gender;

2. Is the new normal set-up in face-to-face classes effective in terms of:

2.1 Teaching;

2.2 Learning;

2.3 Adaptation;

3. Does the new normal set-up in face-to-face classes helps the students in coping in their

mental health issues?

Determines the audience who will benefit from a study of the problem and explains

how exactly the results will be significant to them.

The researchers believe that the outcome of this investigation will be of great help to

the following:

Senior High School Students. These students of K-12 program and the government

expect that these students hone their knowledge about everything. But these students

3
encounter problems in face to face. We all know that the subject gave in SHS like the subject

in college to prepare these students for their goals want to achieve.

Teachers. Teaching involves skills, value and knowledge will be taught and so on.

Without teachers there will be no successful in to this world such as no successful accounts,

architecture, and no successful children who would achieve their aspiration of becoming.

Parents of students. Who work hard not for themselves but also for education of

their child. This may involve assisting their child with setting up their learning environment,

resolving technical difficulties with online tools, and helping them manage their time

effectively.

Scope and Delimitation

The primary goal of the study is to know the challenges of SHS students, and their

experiences under new normal set up in face-to-face classes. The study will be conducted in

Pablo Roman Senior High School located in Panilao, Pilar Bataan. It will be conducted in the

3rd of 2nd semester where we will undergo some of the current situation that takes place in the

new normal set up.

The participants were the students of Pablo Roman Senior High School in Panilao,

Pilar, Bataan, comprising of 16 respondents under School Year 2022-2023, having 8 male
