MINUTES FOR THE PICACHO HILLS LADIES LEAGUE

April 27, 2023

The meeting was called to order by President Margie Herberger at 2:20 p.m. Eight members were
present.

Announcements by Margie:
 Ladies Cup was held on April 15 with nineteen players. Congratulations to Julie Bauer, the
Ladies Cup winner. Thanks to Candy Slover for all her work in organizing the tournament. Check
out the website (phlga.weebly.com) for pictures. Margie apologized for not emailing the
tournament results.
 Play day time for PHLL will still be at 10 a.m. on Thursdays in May. The time will change to 9
a.m. in June, July and August.
 Reminders: Make sure you turn in your card every time you play and post your score to GHIN.
Posting hole by hole is most advantageous.
 Printed PHLL directories are still available in the Pro Shop for those that would like a hard copy.
 Make sure you check out our website (phlga.weebly.com) for communication. If you have
changes that should be made, let Margie know.

Treasurer’s Report was previously emailed to the membership showing a balance in our operating fund
of $2,640.85 and our Kactus Kapers fund of $3,007.73 for a total of $5,648.58. There were no further
questions or discussion.

Border: In Lori’s absence, Donna Lafreniere referred to the email sent reporting PHLL winners in each of
their flights at Red Hawk. The next tournament will be held at Lone Star in El Paso on May 22.

Senior Women Representative, Jean Davis, reported that Alamogordo will host a tournament in May.
Linda Chagares asked about being able to play and Jean told her about having to pay her dues so that
she could play.

Kactus Kapers: Margie announced that Kactus Kapers was scheduled for September 29 through October
1 this year. She asked for feedback from those in attendance as to their thoughts on last year’s
tournament, participation in this year’s tournament and for a volunteer to chair the event.
 There was a question with regard to last year’s entry fee and whether it was rather high. Karen
clarified that last year’s entry fee was $450 per team/$250 per person for a team that included a
PHCC member. An additional $75 per team was charged if neither player was a PHCC member.
 Donna Lafreniere reported:
o She has asked Border participants for their interest and received positive response from
several.
o She had been worried about the addition of Calcutta to KK last year prior to the event,
then found it to be a lot of fun. Lynn also added that it was a big financial boost to the
event.
o She also noted that last year’s entry fee was comparable to other invitationals that she
has just participated in.
 Jean Davis reported that she has discussed KK with NMSU players and they are very interested
in playing again this year.
 Lynn Zeemont reported that she would like to step back. She has worked for many years
soliciting tee and other sponsorships. She is willing to share her files, but would like to see
someone else take on this very important task.
 Other points made:
o Last year there were very nice raffle items but some would have liked to see some
smaller raffle items as well.
o Important that the person/persons chairing this event have a good relationship with the
Pro Shop.
To end the discussion, Margie said that she would send a survey to the membership to determine
interest in playing and if anyone would step up to chair the event. (Members please be sure that you
respond to Margie’s survey.)

Linda Chagares, Hospitality Chair, requested that members let her know when there is anyone she
should be recognizing not just for illness, bereavement but maybe something fun as well. Her email
address is: lweaver9@gmail.com.

Jill of the Hill for April is Chris Fritz with a net 72. Congratulations, Chris!

Discussion Items:
Some of those in attendance were under the impression that anyone could participate in Jill of the Hill
days just by paying their $2 and turning in their score card, even if they did not play during the PHLL
blocked off tee time. After some discussion it was agreed that only players playing during the PHLL
blocked off tee time could participate and qualify for Jill of the Hill.

No further business being brought forward, the meeting was adjourned at 3:20 by Margie Herberger.

Respectfully submitted,

Karen Lord, Treasurer
