SPEECH ARTS ONLINE COMMUNICATION

STEP ONE: Consider a career/field of interest to you.

STEP TWO: Investigate how that career SPECIFICALLY uses online communication. How do professionals
in this field present information online? What formats are used (Zoom, YouTube, etc.) It does not
necessarily need to be formal speeches. Consider what we’ve discussed in class: presentations, group
panels, discussions, video seminars, sales pitches, instructional lessons, etc.

STEP THREE: Research and prepare an original 1-2 minute ONLINE presentation that someone in this
profession would utilize. You are not giving a speech ABOUT the job, but rather you are presenting as
though you already have the job. (BE CREATIVE, IMAGINE YOU ARE WORKING IN THAT PROFESSION)

- What is your topic?

- Who is your audience?
- What is your purpose? (To inform, persuade, or entertain?)
- What information do you need to research in order to write your presentation?

REQUIREMENTS:

1. 1-2 minutes long

2. Your content should be well organized and well prepared-it should fit the job and your chosen
audience.
3. You may include: visual aids, props, costumes, audio, text, etc.
4. Be creative! This is your opportunity to showcase the delivery, writing, and preparation skills
you have learned this semester.

5. You must record your presentation on video to be shared with the class. You may use ANY video
format that you prefer, and any that would fit best for your presentation/profession

EXAMPLES:

● Actor – Audition monologue

● Teacher – Mini lesson for a class
● Advertising or Marketing Executive – Sales pitch to a company
● Interior Designer – Design proposal
● News person- News broadcast

● Biologist- Research proposal

● Doctor- telehealth session with a patient

We will be working on this all week in the classroom. You should have plenty of time to research, write,
and practice. Anything you don’t finish is homework.
