EXPERIMENT NO. 2

NAME:
COURSE & YEAR:
GROUP:
DATE:

I. TITLE: VOLUMETRIC DETERMINATION OF THE SPECIFIC WEIGHT OF AN UNKNOWN LIQUID

II. OBJECTIVE:
To determine the specific weight of an unknown liquid and to find out what happens
when two or three liquids are mixed
III. MATERIALS:
Three different liquids
IV. APPARATUS
1. Beaker
2. Graduated Cylinder
3. Weighing scale
V. THEORY
The specific weight of a substance is defined as the weight per unit volume
VI. PROCEDURE
1. Weigh an empty graduated cylinder
2. Place an amount of an unknown liquid (say 10 ml) into the graduated cylinder
3. Weight the graduated cylinder with the liquid
4. Determine the weight of the 10-ml liquid.
5. Compute the specific weight by dividing the weight by its volume
6. Repeat the procedure for the other two liquids
7. Tabulate and record the specific weights
8. Mix the three liquids in a beaker
9. Observe what happens and explain why

SKETCH (Draw the setup of how the experiment is done)
