You are a Junior Management Consultant of ABC management consultant group that helps
companies to improve its performance. Your task is to support an organization of your choice to
improve its culture, to use the power and politics correctly and use the motivational techniques
appropriately. Recently some employees at your selected organization are performing poorly and
the survey shows that majority of the workforce is demotivated and not giving their full effort on
their duties. This has caused distress among the senior management of the selected organization.
As a junior management consultant, you have been asked to prepare and present a report that:

Situation Team work in the office challenges employees to deal with varying opinions, methods
and experience levels. Effective joint projects capitalize on each team member’s strengths with
all members contributing to the final results. As a team member, you may find yourself
disagreeing with colleagues or struggling to cooperate on the project.

Learning to compromise and communicate effectively with the other team members helps you
work productively toward a common goal. The result of effective team work is a finished
product that meets or exceeds expectations.

Conflict in the workplace can destroy good teamwork. When you don't manage it effectively,
real and legitimate differences between people can quickly get out of control, which can result
in an irretrievable breakdown in communication

In your selected company employees work closely with two managers, John and Kayla. John
heads up production, and are eager to buy a machine that will increase her department's
output. Kayla works in purchasing, and is keen to reduce costs. She understands John’s
motivation, but informs her that the organization won't be making any new purchases. This has
created conflict and tension that is spreading throughout the workplace.

▪ Explains effective team as opposed to an ineffective team.

▪ Develop an effective team for your organization using Tuckman’s Team Development model in
order to functioning effectively together and delivering high quality results

▪ Apply Belbin’s Team Roles for your selected organization for managing effective teams that
includes: identifying potential strengths and weaknesses/challenges within your team;
motivational techniques to encourage everyone's effective contributions; own
recommendations for team roles and justifications.

▪ Apply “path-goal leadership” theory in your selected organization to improve team


performance that includes: its main goals; the obstacles in applying this theory and ways to
overcome the obstacles in different situations

▪ Explore Bell and Hart’s causes of conflict and the steps to be taken to prevent conflict happening
along with own recommendations for an improved performance for your organization.
Investigates how social capital can help managers become more effective leader in your
selected organization, that includes: its importance and the challenges in the business world;

the strategies to improve the social capital; effective use of the social capital for the success of
the business; your own recommendations for an improved social capital and justifications and
any criticism of the concept
