OBJECTIVES:
DISCUSSION:
The speed of an object is a scalar quantity which measures of how fast it moves. If the object
is moving from one position to another in a measured time, its average speed is obtained by dividing
the distance travelled by the time taken to cover the distance. The standard unit for speed is m/s
(meter per second).
The velocity of an object is a vector quantity that describes the speed of an object in a given
direction. The formula for speed and velocity is given below:
EXERCISE # 1 (Use the GAFSA Method when answering the problems – GIVEN, ASKED,
FORMULA, SOLUTION, and ANSWER.
3. A car runs at a velocity of 5 km/hr, due North of Washington Avenue. How long
will it take for the car to cover 3.5 km? (NOTE: answer must be expressed in SI /
standard unit)
4. An airplane flies with a constant speed of 7.4 miles per hour. How far can it travel
in 0.45 hour? (NOTE: answer must be expressed in SI / standard unit)
