Speed and Velocity

Name: _____________________ Gr/Strand: ________ Date: _______ Score: ________

OBJECTIVES:

 Differentiate speed and velocity; and

 Solve word problems on speed and velocity.

DISCUSSION:
The speed of an object is a scalar quantity which measures of how fast it moves. If the object
is moving from one position to another in a measured time, its average speed is obtained by dividing
the distance travelled by the time taken to cover the distance. The standard unit for speed is m/s
(meter per second).
The velocity of an object is a vector quantity that describes the speed of an object in a given
direction. The formula for speed and velocity is given below:

EXERCISE # 1 (Use the GAFSA Method when answering the problems – GIVEN, ASKED,
FORMULA, SOLUTION, and ANSWER.
