Study and the use of Vernier Caliper & Micrometer

On February 10, 2023, we were assigned to measure different sizes, length and thickness of
tubes. using a Vernier caliper and micrometer.

We began by using the Vernier caliper to measure the dimensions of each object. The Vernier
caliper was positioned with the jaws closed around the object, and the reading was taken from
the Vernier scale. The Vernier scale provides the ability to read measurements down to the
nearest 0.05mm.

Next, we used the micrometer to measure the same set of objects. The micrometer was
positioned with the anvil and spindle in contact with the object, and the reading was taken from
the micrometer scale. The micrometer scale provides the ability to read measurements down to
the nearest 0.01mm.

The measurements obtained using the Vernier caliper and micrometer were recorded in a table.
The measurements obtained using the Vernier caliper were generally accurate to the nearest
0.05mm. However, the micrometer provided much more precise measurements, with the ability
to measure down to the nearest 0.01mm. The micrometer readings were consistently smaller than
the Vernier caliper readings, indicating the higher accuracy of the micrometer. Once we were
done, we gathered our recording of the measurements of the different tubes and wrote it on the
lab sheet. The use of Vernier Caliper and micrometer gave me another knowledge to measure
things, as being a student of the engineering department, knowing these things can be a stepping
stone for what I will become in the future.

The Study and the use of Planimeter

On the early morning of February 17, 2023, we were at the workshop to perform an experiment
using the planimeter. A planimeter, a device used to measure the area of irregular shapes on a
two-dimensional surface. A planimeter is a valuable tool in many fields, including engineering,
architecture, and surveying. This lab report aims to demonstrate the proper usage of the
planimeter and the importance of accuracy in measurements.

We began by selecting an irregular shape from the set and drawing. Next, we positioned the
planimeter on the surface with its tracing arm following the drawn perimeter. The planimeter's
roller arm was then rolled along the surface to trace the area enclosed by the perimeter. After
tracing the entire perimeter, we recorded the planimeter reading and the length of the perimeter
using a ruler. We repeated this process for several other irregular shapes.

The measurements obtained using the planimeter were recorded in a table. The planimeter
provided accurate measurements of the area enclosed by each perimeter, with a margin of error
of less than 1%. The recorded length of the perimeter was used to calculate the area of the shape
using the formula A = (P/2π)^2 * π, where A is the area and P is the length of the perimeter.

The planimeter is a useful tool for measuring the area of irregular shapes. It provided accurate
measurements of the enclosed area, with a margin of error of less than 1%. The recorded
perimeter length was used to calculate the area of the shape accurately. It is essential to use the
proper technique when using the planimeter to ensure accuracy in measurements.

The Use of Tachometer

On March 17th 2023, we were to do the readings of the same motors with different horsepower
using the Tachometer. The use of a tachometer, a device used to measure the rotational speed of
an engine or other rotating objects. A tachometer is a valuable tool in many fields, including
automotive and industrial applications. The aim is to demonstrate the proper usage of the
tachometer and the importance of accuracy in measurements.

We began by setting up the tachometer to measure the rotational speed of an engine. The
tachometer was connected to the engine's rotating system, the tachometer was then used to
measure the engine's RPM, and the reading was recorded. Next, we used the tachometer to
measure the rotational speed of various objects with rotating components, such as the belt of the
compressor. The tachometer was positioned close to the rotating component, and the reading was
taken.

The tachometer is a useful tool for measuring the rotational speed of engines and other rotating
objects. It provided accurate measurements of the rotational speed, with a margin of error of less
than 5%. The recorded RPM readings were used to calculate the angular velocity of the object
accurately. It is essential to use the proper technique when using the tachometer to ensure
accuracy in measurements.
