1-What was/were the learning objectives/outcomes of the lesson? (Add state objectives if
known)

The objectives were to write an equation verifying ticket prices, then they use the data from
theater register to respond to each prompt. After they had to determine totals in each category for
the first seven days of April, and last they had to write a system of equations to represent future
days also.

2-How did the teacher begin and end the lesson?

She started off the lesson with having them go to page 271 of their book, while she walked
around helping students. She asks them how they got certain totals and make equations for all
adult and student ticket prices. At the end she showed a visual of the equations graphed and had
the students discuss them for a few minutes.

3-What did the teacher use for teaching materials or instructional aids/equipment?

The teacher allowed them to do group work where they got to put the equations they made on a
poster board to present to the class that they got to decorate.

4-Which instructional methods and strategies did the teacher use?

Off the bat they were doing cooperative learning because the students were basically doing
group work half of the class until class discussion. They were using the jigsaw strategy by
having each of them learn a part then add it to the poster to teach to class.

5-How did the teacher assess learning?

When assessing learning the teacher would walk around to each group and ask them to explain
what they were doing and how they were getting the answers they were, and while students
presented she had them all talk to show they all are understanding the concept.
6- What can you say about the teacher’s philosophy/beliefs and style? (Traditional,
progressive, behaviorist, student-centered vs. teacher-centered, authoritative, etc.)

I think the teacher most resembled an authoritative teacher based on the way she had complete
control over the whole class while she was teaching, they never really got off task or were loud
and disruptive, and they also all participated, she also controlled the class discussion by keeping
it going with her thoughts as well.

7-How does the teacher manage classroom? Can you identify classroom management
techniques used?

The teacher manages class by obviously having good relationships with students because when a
student sneezed she told her “Bless you sneezy” and made the students laugh. And she had the
students also do a lot of peer teaching to keep the whole class engaged and helps the students
behavior as well.

8-Observe in the classroom setting and determine the types of behavior students play when
off-task. What do they do when they are not paying attention? How does the teacher re-
direct them or get them back on task?

When the instructor notices a student off task or not understanding the topic as well she redirects
them and gives them a little bit more attention and guidance to help the student.

9-How does the teacher communicate with students (verbal, vocal, meta-verbal or non-verbal
communication such as facial, body language, use of space, motion and time?)

The teacher communicates verbally especially when trying to get students attentions, she says
“Eyeballs here” and uses motion and time very well by keeping her entire class engaged for
majority of the lesson

10-Who were the students in the class? What did you notice about them? (Background,
diversity, attitude, motivation, interaction, participation, etc)

Honestly there wasn’t much diversity in the classroom because all the students and the teacher
were white. The attitude, motivation, interaction, and participation in the class were all great
though the class was ran very smoothly and the teacher promoted other group to write down
ideas from other groups to help them too.

11-What did you see that is effective in engaging students? What do you see that is
ineffective in keeping students engaged?
The teacher keeps students engaged with class discussion, and hands on activities where she
isn’t hovering over students so they can be creative and come up with their own ideas. One thing
that I didn’t like that she did was when she would ask questions to the class she wouldn’t give
them a chance to respond. Sometimes she would just answer her own questions and keep going.

12-What are the two instructional strategies you observed and would like to apply in your
classroom?

The instructional strategy that I noticed the most was think, pair, share and social interaction and
how the students had different ideas and the teacher encouraged them to write it down if they
didn’t have it because it can help them too. Also cooperative learning because the students were
basically doing group work half of the class until class discussion.

13-What are two important classroom management strategies that you observed and would
like to apply in your classroom?

I think building a good relationship with students and peer teaching are things Iw ould use for
my classroom because when you have a good relationship with students you have less problems
with keeping them engaged and participation. The teacher manages class by obviously having
good relationships with students because when a student sneezed she told her “Bless you sneezy”
and made the students laugh. And she had the students also do a lot of peer teaching to keep the
whole class engaged and helps the students behavior as well.
