A. EVALUATING ASSERTIONS

OPINION: War armed conflict affect civilians specially children who are vulnerable against war.

FACT: According to the article of American Academy of Pediatrics, more than 1 in 10 children
worldwide are affected by armed conflict. The affects are both direct and indirect and are associated
with immediate and long-term harm. The direct effects of conflict include death, physical and
psychological trauma, and displacement.

B. FORMULATING COUNTERCLAIM

CLAIM: Children must be protected during armed conflict.

REASON: Children are weak and extremely vulnerable, as they are at risk of and suffer from various
forms of violence, maiming, exploitation, abduction, and abuse.

COUNTERCLAIM: Protecting children should not be the main focus of the government.

REASON: Children are not the only one who are affected on armed conflict, there are any other
civilians such as doctors, teachers, etc. All civilians who are affected of war must be protected.
