NATION VS STATE

A nation is a large group of people who share a common history, culture, race, or
language, whereas a state deals with territory governed by political bodies. The citizens of the
nation perceive themselves as members of the same group and have a similar identity. In
simple terms, a state describes a territory, and a nation is a collective of people. The state has
the authority to protect its boundaries and to propose and enforce laws.

FOUR ELEMENTS OF A STATE

1. Population

It refers to the overall population of a state, city, or any other district or territory. The
population must exist; there is no defined limit, but a state cannot exist without people. Yet, it
must be within a rational range, which could be estimated based on the extent of the state's
territory, resource availability, anticipated quality of life, as well as demands for defense,
manufacturing, and supply.

2. Territory

Territory is any region of land that is under a state’s authority or jurisdiction. Whatever the extent
of the area, it must be distinct and clearly designated as a part of the land. Additionally, it isn't
always merely a piece of property. Who we are as a people is shaped by the history and sense
of identity that the territory provides.

3. Government

It is described as a group with the ability to impose certain administrative regulations on

a state or nation. The utilization of sovereign power is executed by the entire government.
Government may take several different forms, including monarchy, aristocracy, dictatorship, and
democracy.

4. Sovereignty
Sovereignty describes the ability to exercise limitless legal or political authority inside a
state's borders. There can be no state without sovereignty. It prohibits any adjacent state from
meddling in another state's internal matters.

CORE CONCEPT OF WESTPHALIAN SYSTEM

It is a principle in international law dictating in which every state has sole sovereignty
beyond its own area. All states will have the absolute authority to govern their respective nations
and to conduct international relations in accordance with their own judgments. The rights and
duties of all states were equal in the Westphalian system. The Westphalian system is still used
as a model for modern global politics around the world, and the concept of state sovereignty,
which emerged as an effect of peace, serves as the cornerstone for international agreements.

HOW IS INTERNATIONALISM CONNECTED WITH GLOBALIZATION?

In my perspective, globalization and internationalism are interrelated. Globalization has

given us the ability to move goods and services across national boundaries. Through cross-
border exchanges of people, goods, technology, and information, globalization seeks to unite
and enhance the economies of several countries. Internationalism happens when several
nations or countries collaborate to advance shared objectives or interests. The goal of
internationalism is to pool resources across nations that can provide improved products and
services. To put it simple, internationalism is the practice of developing products that address
the demands of consumers worldwide. Both work with hands clasped. These are excellent when
there are plans to expand a product or service across several national markets, which would
afterwards affect the economies of the countries engaged in the growth.
