Same Words Used as Different Parts of Speech (Usage of
Words as Various Parts of Speech)
সব সময় মেন রাখেত হেব, সাধারণভােব আমরা একিট শ�েক িবি��ভােব
একিট িনিদর্� Part of Speech িহেসেব িচি�ত করেলও, Part of Speech
যখন বােকয্ বয্বহৃত হয়, তখন বােকয্র মেধয্ এিট তার Function বা Use
এর উপর িনভর্র কের তার �কার িনণর্ীত হয় । িনেচ আমরা বহুল বয্বহৃত
কতগুেলা শ� িনেয় আেলাচনা করব, েযগুেলা বােকয্র মেধয্ বয্বহােরর
িভ�তার কারেণ িবিভ� Part of Speech িহেসেব িবেবিচত হয়। আমােদর
আেলাচনা চার ভােগ িবভ� থাকেব । যথা-
১. েযসব Word সাধারণত Preposition িহেসেব বয্বহৃত হয়, িক� বােকয্
বয্বহােরর কারেণ অনয্ Part of Speech িহেসেব িবেবিচত হয়।
২. েযসব Word সাধারণত Determiner / Adjective িহেসেব বয্বহৃত
হয়, িক� বােকয্ বয্বহােরর কারেণ অনয্ Part of Speech িহেসেব
িবেবিচত হয়।
৩. েযসব Word সাধারণত Conjunction িহেসেব বয্বহৃত হয়, িক� বােকয্
বয্বহােরর কারেণ অনয্ Part of Speech িহেসেব িবেবিচত হয়।
8. Miscellaneous বা িবিবধ ।
Adverb -- They wandered about in towns and hamlets. (af)
About thirty people died by the accident.
Above
Preposition - Don't write above the line.
Adverb -- The sky is above.
Adjective -- Analyse the above sentence.
Noun -- Our blessings come from above.
After
Preposition - He was born after the death of his father.
Conjunction The patient died after the doctor had come.
Adverb -- They arrived soon after.
Adjective -- After ages (পরবতর্ী �জ�) shall sing his glory.
Before
Preposition: He came before my departure.
Conjunction: He had gone away before I came.
Since
Preposition -- Since that day I have not seen him. (থােক)
Conjunction - Since he was ill, he was absent. (েযেহতু)
Adverb -- I have not seen him since. (তখন েথেক)
Up
Preposition-Let us go up the hill.
Adverb -- He jumped up.
Adjective - The next up train will leave here at 12.30. The
standard of the hotel is up.
Noun They had their ups and downs of fortune. (উ�ান -পতন)
Verb -- She upped him and then left.
Down
Preposition- A huge rock came rushing down the hill.
Adverb -- The Titanic went down on her first voyage.
Adjective -- The porter was killed by the down train.
Noun- He has seen the ups & downs of life.
Verb- They downed the enemy helicopter.
2. েযসব Word সাধারণত Determiner/ Adjective িহেসেব বয্বহৃত হয়
All
Adjective - All men are mortal.
Adverb - He was left all alone in the vast sea. (এেকবাের)
Pronoun-- All is well that ends well.
Noun -- He sacrificed his all for the welfare of his children.
Any
Adjective - Any student can get good marks if only he tries.
Pronoun -- Does any of you know where he has gone?
Adverb -- Is that any better? (েকানভােব)
Little
Adjective- There is little danger in going there. (এক অ� েয েনই বলেল চেল)
He was a little boy then.
Pronoun -- Man wants but little he gets. (অ� িকছু - gets এর Object িহেসেব
বয্বহৃত হেয়েছ)
Adverb -- He eats very little.
Less
Adjective -- You are paying less attention to your studies than you used
to do.
Adverb -- He works less than I do.
Noun -- He wants Tk.600 for that watch. He won't be satisfied with less.
No
Adjective - No problem.
Adverb - He is no more. (আর েনই)
Noun -- I will not take a nă.
One
Adjective One day I met him in the street.
Pronoun-- The little ones cried for joy. (বা�ারা)
Some
Adjective -- We must find some way out of it. (েকান একটা)
Pronoun-- Some say one thing and others another.
That
Demonst Adjective -- What is that noise?
Demonst Pronoun -- That is what I want.
Adverb -- I have done that much only. (that এখােন much- Adjective েক
Modify কেরেছ)
Relative Pronoun-- The evil that men do lives after them. (যা)
Conjunction - He worked hard that he could prosper in life. (যােত)
The
Def. Article/ Adjective -- The cat loves comfort.
Adverb -- The sooner, the better. Of the two boys, Kamal is the better.
 3. েযসব Word সাধারণত Conjunction িহেসেব বয্বহৃত হয়:
As
Conjunction - As he was poor, I helped him. (েযেহতু)
Adverb -- We walked as fast as possible. (যত……তত)
Relat. Pron. -- She likes the same colour as I do. (েয রকম)
But
Conjunction - He is poor but honest.
Adverb -- It is but (only) right to admit our faults.
Preposition - The problem is anything but easy. (ছাড়া)
Relat. Pronoun-- There is no mother but loves her child. (েয
না)
Else
Conjunction -- Make haste, else you will miss the train.
(অনয্থায়)
Adjective -- I have something else for you. (অনয্)
Adverb - Shall we look anywhere else? (অনয্)
