(Topic: Moro Province 1903-1913 Coverage)

1.  How did the mandate of Americans turned out during the direct rule in the year
1903-1913?

The main point of the direct rule was to civilize, educate, and develop the self-
governance of the Moros. It was implemented and the policies were for the Moros
itself. At first it was for the good of the people however, as time went by those
policies made Moros furious because it infringed the traditional society.

They were keen-eyed because they did have the feeling that the Americans
wanted them to inherit the American way of life and Christian values. In this way, the
generations of those years and the new generations of them may be affected
spiritually and mentally. Also, the Moros loathed the tax payment, the parceling out of
lands, and vessels who were licensed to fish in their water areas.

To think of it, they were aware already that the Americans were trying to fool
them like they were allies. This eventually led to chaos because the Moros
sensitivities were moved. However, even though the Moros were brave back then to
face western weaponry, they were still conquered and disarmed. Moros were
reluctant because they had thought those years would be the devastation of the
Moros if they continued their battle, so the Americans had won the battle and had the
chance in a possible way of controlling the people.

2. What do you think was almost the most important development of the Moros
during those years?

I think one of the most important developments the Moros may have inherited
during the years 1903-1913, was being part of the Philippine government. This was
almost the stepping stone to give them wisdom that they were really part of the
Philippine nation. Because many of the Christianized Filipinos believed in them, and
recognized them as their fellow citizens despite the Spanish demonization. The idea
of them being bad people was almost gone and accepted them as also treasures of
the country.

Additionally, the process of integrating them on the body of politics of the

Philippines would develop their capabilities in leading their people. They would know
the proper governance that may help them protect their constituents. And was the
chance to educate and civilize the Moro Filipinos. That almost became their power to
prove that they do have something to provide and contribute for the nation.

Too bad that it was flinched because of the wrong system of the Americans.
Which was indeed the backhanded plan of the colonizers for them to control and
obtain the Moro Filipinos in inheriting Christian values and westernized life.  Also,
truly a screwed up one for using Moroland for their best interest.
