Introduction
• Rammed earth construction is very traditional method.
• Basically, it is made up of soil components (like silt, sand, clay)..
• Rammed earth walls are constructed by ramming a mixture of gravel, sand, silt and a
small amount of clay into place between flat panels called formwork.
• Geopolymers used are fly ash (industrial waste) and straw belle(agro waste).

Advantages Of Rammed Earth Construction
(RE Construction Beneficial in the following ways)

1. It balances air humidity.

2. It stores heat.
3. Earth doesn’t burn, so rammed earth wall are fire proof.
4. It saves energy and produces virtually no environmental pollution.
5. It is always reusable.
6. It is locally and naturally available material & requires less energy
than steel and concrete.
Advantages Of Rammed Earth Construction

7. Good for noise reduction and insulation.

8. They requires few others resources like aggregate or additives to improve
their properties.
9. In load bearing, which reduces the need for structural supports therefore
reducing building costs standard 400 mm thick rammed earth walls can be
used as a load bearing in construction upto four stories high.
10. Rammed earth construction is non-toxic, non-polluting and 'breathes’.
This creates safer, more people friendly buildings.
Objectives And Work Done

• Laboratory Testing of soil

➢ Jar Test
➢ Soil identification and preliminary soil site tests :-

➢ Liquid Limit
➢ Standard Procter Test (OMC)

➢ Modification Of Soil
➢ Casting of Earth Blocks and Wall Panels

➢ Testing for compressive Strength

• Concluding Remark
• Rammed earth is non-toxic, non-polluting ’. This creates safer, more people-friendly buildings. It is very low
in embodied energy, and extremely comfortable to live in.
• It is locally and naturally available material and requires less energy, so Rammed Earth wall are
Economical.
• The strength is higher than the brunt clay bricks available in market.
• A comparison of embodied energy and CO2 emission of Rammed Earth, Brickwork and concrete block
walls is done and it is seen that the Rammed earth wall is the most environment friendly material. The
compressive strengths of all Rammed earth samples were found that its strength is higher than the burnt clay
brick which is commonly used in building construction
