Personal Achievement Reflection: Sr.

Camber Choir
Damin Kim

The reason why I first started chamber choir was because of the changed credit system
and the graduation problems caused by moving to Vancouver in 2021. My parents suggested me
to do a choir and raise credits, and that is how I got to join choir. When I first started the choir,
there was not much inspiration. I didn't have much interest and I just went there with the
intention of raising the credits. However, I met a friend who was interested in music from the
choir, and through him I became interested in my passion for music and the art of singing.
Originally, I loved singing, so I went to Choir in every spare block with that friend to learn more
skills that were needed for the choir, and also I had choir practice on every morning and evening
in Monday and Friday. Through this, I was able to develop my vocal techniques, body
positioning, breathing. I was also able to experience various concerts while working in a choir,
and while doing solo work, I was able to manage my expression in front of people and increase
my confidence level. I was able to feel worthwhile due to the increase in my skills and the
happiness that came from doing chorus, and I was able to raise my low self-esteem a little more.
However, I still felt that I needed practice to keep my peace while singing in front of people, and
I sometimes sing together in chorus. I felt that I needed more teamwork because the tempo and
pitch didn't match with my friends. The most meaningful time for me was when I was solo, and
since I had never had a part where I sang alone in front of many people, I needed a lot of courage
and it seemed to be the most rewarding time. The transferable skills I gained in the choir were
hard work, being confident, self-confidence, and teamwork. For a long time, I practiced with
friends in the choir where the harmony of voices was important, held concerts, learned
teamwork, effort, and passion, and went to various concerts to learn confidence and maintaining
confidence in front of people.
