1. An aluminum can is in the shape of a cylinder, which is closed at both ends.
Its surface area is 600 cm2 . If the radius were doubled, its surface area would
be 1800 cm2 . If, instead, the height of the can were doubled, the surface area
would be ‘15 ’ cm2 . Write the value of  .

arrived at the terminal point 12 minutes after the first machine and 3 minutes after
the third one. There were no stops enroute. Write the length of the course (in km).

16. A vessel is filled to its capacity with pure coconut milk. 9 litres is drawn from the
vessel and replaced with an equal amount of water. 9 litres of the mixture is again
withdrawn and then replace with equal amount of water. After these changes the
vessel contains 17.1 litres of pure coconut milk less than it did initially. Find the
capacity (in litres).

19. Three sisters came to the market with chickens to sell. One brought 10, another 16
and the third 26. They sold a portion of their chickens by noon at the same price. In
the afternoon, afraid that not all chickens would be sold, they reduced the price and
disposed of the remaining stock all at the same price. At the end of the day, each
sister had obtained the same amount of money from the sale, which was Rs. 3500/-.
Write the number of chickens sold in the forenoon.

20. The base BC of ABC is divided at D so that BD  2DC . On BC , on the side


remote from A , a semi circle is drawn. Through D , draw DE at right angle to BC ,
to cut the semi-circle in E . From BC , cut off a part BP equal to CE and draw PQ

23. Consider a set S that contains m  4 elements, each of which is a positive integer and
no two of which are equal. We call S ‘boring’ if it contains four distinct integers
a, b, c, d such that a  b  c  d . We call S ‘exciting’ if it is not boring.
For example, 2,4,6,8,10 is boring since 4  8  2  10 . Also, 1,5,10,25,50 is
exciting.
(i) Write the number of 5-element subset of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 , which are exciting.
(ii) In above question, write the sum of all elements of each possible 5-elements
subset.
(iii) Define rem  a, b  to be the remainder when positive integers a is divided by
positive integer b . For example rem(10, 7) =3, rem (20, 5) = 0, rem (3, 4) =3.
Let n be a positive integer n  10 . For each positive integer k with 1  k  n ,
